This was very heartwarming -- and it's nice that Dean finally got a happy Thanksgiving-- As usual, Well Done!
Author's Response: Thank you! I really wanted to have a nice Thanksgiving that included John and them just enjoying each other's company. One Dean would really love. I'm really happy this one worked for you!

Oh my gosh!- "And it suddenly hit John just how screwed up their lives were, that instead of a friendly holiday game of football like they’d told the doctor, they’d been out hunting down a homicidal spirit. Putting their lives on the line. No turkey dinner for them in a home warm with laughter and love; no day spent thinking of all the things they had to be thankful for; no happy ending." That's just quintessential Winchester, if ya ask me! And that bit about Mary being thankful for "my boys" just made my eyes tear up......... You've simply done a marvelous job with this chapter - It's perfect!
Author's Response: Aww, thank you!! This review completely made my day, and the rating too. Thank you for both! I think this may be my favorite chapter of the whole series, possibly because I worked so hard on it. I'm so glad you liked this one, that it touched you emotionally and you felt it was a good depiction of the Winchester life. That really means a lot to me. Hope you'll continue to read! I love hearing what you think! :)

Wow....... That was such a well thought out chapter. The deep introspection came over very well - Sam's mood just leaped off the page. You managed to perfectly capture his internal conflict about the normal life he wanted so badly versus his utter lonliness at not being part of a "matched set" any more. And that was right - he hadn't left Dean - he only left hunting. But the longer he put off calling, the harder it was to pick up that phone. This was so sad, but very well executed. Looking forward to Dean's point of view, especially the reaction to the missed call. You're doing a great job with this. Jules
Author's Response: Awww, thanks Jules! I really appreciate the lovely review, and the rating!! I'm so glad you liked this chapter so much. I've been a little nervous about posting the Stanford chapters, because they are more agsty than anything, and I don't normally do pure angst. So I really appreciate that you liked this one and thought it was well-done. I just posted the Dean POV piece. Hope you like it as well! :) Hope your hands are doing better!

Ohh! Poor Sam! I'm all sniffly right now! I was wondering how you'd handle this Thanksgiving. It was wonderful, and I look forward to seeing Dean's side of things. Something else that tickled me...Sam spent his day researching Appalachian folklore, and so did I today! Happy coincidences.
Author's Response: LOL That IS a coincidence. I've spent a lot of time reading up on Appalachian folklore, so I snuck that in there for me, too. LOL I'm so glad you came back to read and review this chapter. It means a lot to me to hear what you think. I went ahead and posted the Dean POV piece. I hope you enjoy! :)

Another real good one, honey! --Poor boys, though- Thanksgiving in a hotel room with that soda, which, as you say, seems just wrong :)
Author's Response: Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to read and let me know what you thought. I appreciate it! Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the soda. Intrigued at its very existence, yet not sure I'd actually want to drink most of the flavors. LOL Glad you enjoyed this one. Hope you'll keep reading! :)

Aww - What an awesome chapter -- You seem to capture perfectly what I'm sure was the brothers' relationship when they were that age!! Excellent!
Author's Response: Awww, thanks! I really appreciate you saying that I did a good job of capturing their relationship at this age, it's something I worked really hard on. I always love your feedback, thanks so much for taking the time to read and review! :)

"Bitch", right? Had to be. The Winchester brothers' way of saying I love you. Poor Dean - not only having to get his tonsils out at the very undignified age of 21, but also not being able to talk! Yikes! No wonder he was grouchy. But this was very sad in places, too - especially Sam realising that it took so little to make Dean happy, and the fact that his big brother wasn't used to getting much from his sibling or parent. Love how Sam remembered their mother's family tradition, and wrote it on the napkin so Dean would find it without either of them succumbing to a dreaded chick-flick moment. Very nice. Jules
Author's Response: Hey there, Jules! Thanks for coming back to check out this one! Yep, you guessed right. It is definitely the Winchester equivalent of "I love you." LOL I'm so glad you liked the part with Sam writing on the napkin. That was actually the main impetus for this chapter, to get to that moment, so I'm glad it paid off for you. I really appreciate the time you took to read and review. It made my day to see such nice feedback on these chapters. The next one should be up in a couple of days. Hope you'll like it as well. :)

This was a wonderful bounce - I went from sympathising with Sam about being stuck in the ice storm on a hunt which seriously could have waited for better weather, to understanding why John dragged them out there in the wind and the cold to salt and burn the bones before those kids who reminded him so much of his own sons got hurt by the angry spirit. And I love the rare but touching family moment in the diner after the hunt. Sam's blossoming teenage rebellion and Dean's frustration at being in the middle of the war zone was really well portrayed. And anyone who can get me feeling sympathy for John is a pretty damned good storyteller. Wonderful job - sorry I'm late getting here - trouble with my hands again. Jules
Author's Response: Hey there, Jules! Thanks for coming back to check out another chapter of this. I'm sorry to hear your hands are giving you trouble--nothing serious, I hope? Thank you, so much, for the review you left for this one. I'm so glad you felt like the boys' feelings really came through, I've been trying to incrementally show the progression from the children they were to the men they've become. I'm glad it's working for you so far. And I'm especially happy I was able to make John sympathetic for you, since I know how you feel about him. That's quite a compliment! I really wanted to do a nice Thanksgiving moment for them that included him, so I'm really glad you liked them at the diner. Thanks again for reading and reviewing. It made my day! :)

Awww, another beautifuly written chapter, it's lovely when the three of them are all together and happy. I'm going to add this wonderful story to my favs.
Author's Response: Awww, thank you SO much! I'm really honored that you like this story so much, and especially this chapter. I really wanted to do one where they celebrate with John, and this one has a special place in my heart because of that. Thanks for taking the time to read and review, I really appreciate it! The next chapter will go up later this week!

That was lovely, how it went from complete angst and tension to a wonderful light-hearted moment with the boys. John's memory of his tussle with the cheerleeder spirit that reminded him of Mary actually had me feeling a warm and fuzzy wave of sympathy for him - which for me is a huge turnaround because I think John's an arse.....anyway...... The memory Dean shared with Sam was so bittersweet - painful for him to remember, and painful for Sam to hear, but it also let him have another tiny connection to the mother he never knew. And the crowning moment was the sharing of pie. Of course. Lovely job. Looking forward to some more pie in the near future. I'm sitting at my desk at home, fork in hand, in eager anticipation. Jules
Author's Response: Hey there, Jules! So glad you came back to check this chapter out, it's one of my all-time favorites. I'm really happy you liked it so much! So glad to hear that I was able to make John sympathetic for you. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about him (including me! LOL) or don't like him at all. When I portray him, I try to show his complexities. I think he's an interesting character who wants the best for his sons, just never quite gives them what they need, for a variety of reasons. Anyway, glad the portrayal of him here worked for you. And I'm so glad you liked the memory that Dean shared with Sam. It will definitely be re-visited later in the series. Thanks again for taking the time to read and leave such a lovely review. I really appreciate it. The next chapter should be up shortly!

Aww - this is just awesome -- What a warm, sweet little story!
Author's Response: Hey there! Thanks for coming back to check out this chapter! I have to say, this is one of my top 3 faves in this series, I just love the boys at this age. So I'm really happy that you liked it so much. And, though his name has been changed to protect the innocent, rest assured that Tom the Turkey DOES in fact exist. LOL I have the pictures to prove it! ;) Hope you continue to read and enjoy!

Wow- this is an incredibly heartbreaking chapter - The senses, especially smell and touch, and even sound - are so exquisitely described in this, making the heartache all the more poignant. I must have you know I'm slowly reading your Thanksgiving stories here, savoring them one at a time, so as not to use them all up in one sitting :) -Great job!
Author's Response: Awww, thank you for the lovely review! It means so much to me that you're enjoying the series so much, and especially the kind things you said about this chapter. I was really worried about posting this one, because it's so sad and was my first real attempt at Winchester angst. But I thought it was an important one to include, so I'm really happy that it worked for you so well. Thank you again for taking the time to let me know what you thought, it really made my day (and it had been a very bad day, so it was lovely to come home to something so nice)! Oh, and thank you for the rating too, I was tickled to receive it! :)

The sodas sound disgusting- which is exactly why young teenagers would like it. Good stories so far. I'm enjoying them very much!
Author's Response: Hey there! I'm so glad you left a review and let me know you're enjoying the stories. That means a lot to me, thanks! Yeah, the sodas really could go either way--totally cool or totally gross. LOL Another chapter of this should go up today. Hope you'll come back for it and let me know what you think! Author's Response: Hey there! I'm so glad you came back for another installment! Thanks for taking the time to read and review, it means a lot to me. This chapter is one of my favorites, I loved the idea of showing the bond between the boys, even before Sam was born. And I loved seeing Dean interact with Mary. Thanks again for the great review you left!

Loved that line of thought of Dean's about Sam's curiosity being inevitable, like their luck lol. And everyone knows that the Winchester luck is - well - consistently bad.... Um - not sure if I'd want a baked dinner out of a bottle though... That sounds weird. But I loved the big brother thoughtfulness, and Sammy's sad puppy eyes when he finally admitted to Dean that even eating the chicken soup hurt his throat. I agree with Dean - frickin' ghost! Another great feel-good chapter that I thoroughly enjoyed. Especially since I'm feeling under the weather like Sammy - not a poltergeist, just a damned summer cold. Seriously, my luck is like the Winchesters' - only I could manage to get the flu in the middle of our hottest month of the year.....*rolls eyes*.... So....more pie soon? Love me some more pie! Jules Oh - and I have to tell you - I'm a bit wary of the star rating thing. I'd much rather leave a review than give a rating, because it can sometimes be a bit dicey. I once got a lovely review from someone who said she loved the chapter, but she gave me two stars, and I thought what the.... So I'll very rarely rate - but I'll always try to review. Ju
Author's Response: Hey there, Jules! Thank you, so much, for coming back to check out another chapter, and for the awesome review you left. It means a lot to me! No worries on the rating thing, btw, I am a bit wary of it myself. LOL I appreciate you letting me know that you usually don't rate things though. :) Thanks for picking out the line about Sam's curiosity and the Winchester luck, it made me giggle when I wrote it, so I'm happy you liked it. Yeah, the sodas DO sound like they could be really gross--and yet, I am still utterly fascinated that they exist at all. LOL Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, hope you get better quickly. Glad to hear yours isn't poltergeist related. ;) I submitted the next chapter last night, so it'll be up as soon as it's been validated. Hope to see you back here then! :)

Nice! Luring Dean out with the double whammy of worried Sam and pie - he never stood a chance, did he? LOL. Could really feel Dean's distress when he thought this was a carry-over from the shtriga hunt that almost sucked the life out of Sammy. But little brother had a plan, and he was determined to see it through. Who could resist those puppy eyes at full power? And the icing on the cake - at least seven home-made pies - it's a wonder Dean didn't run out of there - LOL. This is a really good story - I love how you're capturing the emotions that are swirling around the boys with each different time period. Looking forward to lots more pie. Jules
Author's Response: Nope, Dean didn't stand a chance against the combined power of Sammy and pie! LOL I loved the idea of a story involving a potluck at Pastor Jim's church, and had planned to write THAT scene (and it was funny!), but Dean insisted on angsting things all up on me. LOL I'm glad it worked for you though, and that you're enjoying the different range of emotions throughout the series so far. The next chapter should go up in the next day or two. Hope you'll come back then to check it out! Thanks again for reading and reviewing. Getting all of your lovely reviews really made my day! :)

Lovely peek into the boys' childhood. Sad, because of John's obsession with the hunt to the exclusion of all else, including his sons. But that was a nice moment - for both boys. And little Sammy memorising everything, right down to the wobbly chair - that was sweet. Jules
Author's Response: Hey again! Thank you for taking the time to individually review these chapters, I love to hear your response to each individual story! I'm so glad you liked this one, it remains one of my favorites from the series; I loved seeing the boys at this age, and Dean trying his best to make it a good holiday for Sammy, and Sammy being perfectly happy, despite it not being the ideal holiday. It was sad John wasn't there, but you will get to see him share a Thanksgiving with the boys in the future!

"Death had stolen all the words from their mouths and though Dean was the only one who’d stopped speaking, he wasn’t the only one who had nothing left to say." That was a really beautiful line, and it packed such an emotional punch. What a startling contrast to the previous Thanksgiving - the little family in tatters after Mary's shocking death, and the smell of smoke following them everywhere. That was so well-written, and a stunning (and startling) bounce from the happy time to the darkness. You really did that well. Jules
Author's Response: Hey, Jules! Thank you, SO much, for the lovely review you left for this chapter. I really appreciate your kind words. I have to confess, I was so nervous about posting this chapter, because it is so sad, and was my first real attempt at Winchester angst, so I wasn't sure how it would be received. I'm so glad you thought it was well-written and packed an emotional punch. Thank you!! That means a lot to me. I'm also glad that it was a startling contrast to the previous chapter, because I wanted it to be really jarring--just as their happy life was suddenly, shockingly different. Thanks again for reading and reviewing!

That was absolutely gorgeous! The whole scene with little Dean solemnly informing his mother that Sammy liked "pun'kin" pie - how utterly precious! And I have no doubt that baby Sammy heard his big brother and responded - LOL. That was adorable. And I did get a giggle when Mary told John she was having a giant - lol - she wasn't wrong, was she? What a perfect read for a not-so-good day. Jules
Author's Response: Hey, Jules! Sorry to hear you had a bad day, but so glad this was able to cheer you up a little. This was one of my favorite chapters in this series to write--I wanted to show that the boys had a bond even this early on.
