Boy - you hit the nail on the head with that one. Dean without Sam just doesnt give a damn. He'd be a frightening hunter and he surely wouldnt care if he went down in a fight. I hope Sam gets a clue soon! And how about some more real-time Dean angst? Anymore of that on the horizon???? Loving it as always!!!!!!

Very, very clever! I love that you used Layla, I hadn't thought of her at all. The dialogue is great, and Sam wanting to be a big brother for Jake is really a lovely tribute to Dean - who totally deserves the compliment! Well done, and thanks!

Dean has given Sam so much with his love that Sam wanted to return the favor to someone who could really use it. It really was a tribute to Dean on his part. I am so happy that you love Layla. Beautiful! I wish they had dealt with this a little bit on the show. Of course, that is the awesome thing about great fan fiction: it shows us the scenes we are longing for that Kripke and Co don't have the time or the inclination to show! You wrote that flashback so well, especially when it was a recent memory for Sam. This line.... “Sam, you have me,” Dean said softly, but firmly. “You’ve always had me. I know we haven’t been there for each other much over the past two years, but I have always been here. So, don’t you sit there and tell me you have nothing left.” *sniff*

Poor Dean, this chapter made me so sad for him - and SOOOOO mad at John! lol. You are really handling some very difficult situations - like Dean being taken away by child services - so well. I'm all emotional just thinking about it. And it occurred to me that, just as Dean's life would have gone to hell-in-a-handbasket without Sam, what would Sam's life have been like without Dean? See, you have me thinking. Wonderful stuff, well done.
Author's Response: I wanted Dean to be pulled down a different path without Sam. If you think about it, the reason Dean fights the way he does is because of his little brother. So what happens when you pull Sam away? And you're right...if Dean is this bad off without having Sam in his life, how would Sam's life be without Dean?

Awwwwww! I love flashbacks - especially heart-wrenching ones. Dean making Sam's name out of blocks was just too gorgeous, and telling Sam to fight back was the right thing to do. (imo!) I would love to know how Dean took care of John, but it was probably best that you left it to the imagination.
Author's Response: Thanks ciel4! The main reason for doing this fic was to take a crack at doing flashbacks for the brothers. I wanted to give a precious moment between them since they have so much darkness in their lives. I am keeping John out of the flashbacks for a reason because I want the focus to be on Sam and Dean and their relationship.

Great description in this chapter -I could actually feel how alone Sam was when he was out on the street. And I loved it that Sam got to hear Dean say how much he needs him. The fact that they are both so focused on each other is what drew me to their story in the first place, and you are writing about that focus so beautifully. Well done! I am on my way to chapter 3!

I am so glad I eventually made it to this story - what a great start! I love it that you are showing both Dean and Sam's POV on their argument. They have such complicated lives, and their underlying fears are only ever overcome by the bond they have. Loved this part: And the great thing about Dean was he never expected anything in return. It was almost as if Sam’s happiness was enough of a gift for him. Just gotta love the relationship between these two. I'm reading straight on now!
