Excellent story keept me on edge, loved it!

I was a bit surprised at how much Pastor Jim cussed. You wouldn't think a man of God would use all that bad language.

This was a very emotional chapter. I love that Sam was so frantic at the idea of losing Dean, so desperate to keep him with him.

I kinda hated that you brought Stanford into it, and had Sam deliberately lie to Dean, promising to never leave him when he knows full well that he will. It made me mad at Sam, and I didn't want to be.

I wanted this close call to make Sam determined to never lose his brother, to make him realize how important Dean is to him. If, down the road, he decides to go to school and cuts Dean out of his life (and I hate that it happens that way), I'd at least like to believe he truly meant what he was saying to Dean here--that he didn't intend to leave him, it was just something that happened. This makes it seem so much more callous. He'll tell Dean what he thinks Dean wants to hear to get him to do what Sam wants (fight to live), but break whatever promises he's made to Dean when it's inconvenient for him to keep them. It really bothers me.

That said, I am glad that Sam got Dean to fight to live, even though I hate the methods he used. And I was glad that John made it clear to Sam that he shouldn't have threatened to leave Dean--poor boy has enough abandonment issues. I loved that Sam fought so hard to keep Dean with him, that Pastor Jim and John were both so concerned, and that you ended it with Dean saying he'd never let go.

Really good fic! Tense, suspenseful, emotionally compelling, very in character. Nicely done! Good luck in the awards!

I had to love John for this: "if anything happens to my boy ... anything ... I'll break down the gates of heaven and hell to save him.  And nobody will stop me." I'd kinda like to see him storm Hell to save Dean.

"I need to heal up quickly, can't let Dad leave me behind, can't let him think I'm a burden." That made me really sad for Dean.

This, too: "I fight and I fight for this family ... I've given them every thing I can give ... and it's still not enough ..." I always feel so bad for him, because John and Sam DO seem to take him for granted.

I was a little confused with the deviation, POV-wise, from one of the Winchesters to an outsider POV. Still, an interesting chapter. It would be really good to label them according to whose POV it is, though, especially since they're all in first-person.It makes it a little confusing.

Poor John.

This cracked me up: "Yeah, I know, that's why I'm completely grey ... I'm actually only twenty one." LOL

And of course, we knew from the vision that Sam would go into a coma. Just hope he wakes up more quickly this time around. I have a feeling Dean's going to need him.

Oooh, the vision Sam had was just heartbreaking--I think I cried, a little. So sad. Glad it was able to be prevented, and that Sam got someone to listen to him about Dean's allergy. Nice tie-in with Pontiac, too.

I do wish you'd label each chapter with whose POV it is in the beginning. It threw me off here that you said Sam would be up next, but then this chapter ended up being Dean's POV. I had to go back and re-read once I figured out that you'd meant next chapter would be Sam, not this one.

Good chapter though. Love that Dean knew something was wrong with Sam, and that he wanted Sam taken first to the hospital. Also love John's terrified bargaining, promising Dean the Impala if he makes it.

Ah, man, this chapter was a real tearjerker--especially Dean being so accepting of his coming death, and trying to make John feel a little better about it. Loved the insight into John here. I can see why this got nominated for best portrayal of John--good job with it!

I'm glad John finally figured out something was wrong with Dean, too. Holy crap! I figure he's probably hurt even more than Sam, since he took the brunt of the fall.

Wow. I was just thinking about this very thing--what if one of the boys was holding on to the other off a cliff and chose to go over with him when he couldn't pull him up? I was tickled to find out you'd had the same thought. Cool!

Congrats on the nomination in the UnGen awards, by the way! Good luck!

Crushing!  I shouldn't be so upset about Sam leaving for Stanford because we all know how that ends but I can't help live in the moment.

I was expecially touched by the way you turned the tables on the boys and letting go of one another.  Never gonna happen.  Thank God!

A wonderful story full of laughs, tears and worries.  You certainly chose an appropriate title.  What a roller coaster you had me on!  Thanks so much for sharing your talent!!

Author's Response:

Aw thanks hun :) - thanks for all the lovely reviews and comments.  I'm going to start a Christmas one-shot sequel on the weekend :) - just to cover some areas I missed.

That was close!  I was horrified to think that John might bind Dean's spirit to his body.  Egads!  That would be a nightmare!  Glad Jim was there to get through to him.

Dean will get better.  All he needs is Sam's special bit of healing.  You would think by now John would know not to separate those boys.

Author's Response: ROFL :) - I was so worried with this chapter, and it just got worse as I got nearer to Chapter 10, causing me to go into complete shutdown and writers block.  My nerves got me LOL :) - glad you enjoyed this chapter though!

Ow!  All I can think of is the pain of steadily moving down the hall, pushing his injuries past their points of tolerance.  Yikes!

Author's Response:

Dean is a stubborn SOB, that's why we love him :)

*wail*  Now what?!  Just when you had lulled me into a false sense of hope, Dean freaks me out.  I expected a few more ups and downs but Dean calling for Sammy like this has the hairs on the back of my neck standing at attention.

Flying off to the next chapter...

Author's Response: ROFL ... I'm sorry, every time someone cries, I laugh LOL :) - I must be part demon :)

I luuuv this!!  Every chapter an evil cliffhanger.

My heart nearly broke when John was crying in the bathroom.  And as soon as the doctor said those two horrid words---'I'm sorry'---my heart jumped double time.  I love losing myself in your world!

John's thoughts concerning the cross in the chapel explain why he chose that to mark Dean's grave.  What a fitting symbol of Dean's life.

Author's Response: Aw thanks hun :) - glad you liked the symbol of the cross.  'Lazarus Rising' inspired that image :)

Wow!  At first I thought Sam was just dreaming or hallucinating (the good stuff can do that to you) but when it continued with Sam and his dad grieving, I actually believed maybe Dean did die.

His last thought is a reflection of his big brother.  Hee!

Author's Response:

Ooh I'm so evil, pulling everyone one direction while sneaking back from another LOL :) - glad you enjoyed this chapter!

Oh shit! is right!  I kept inching further and further toward my computer screen until I nearly fell off my chair.  My muscles are so tense I feel like I've been zapped with the paddles.  Amazingly well written!  Talk about out of body experiences---I think I was floating above Dean for awhile.

I had to laugh though when Dean said he loved camping.  That was a riot!  A true sign of great meds!

Author's Response: ROFL hun :) - your eyes must be sore from all the reading LOL :) - I have a whumping stick and I use it on Winchesters ROFL :)

Wow!  Incredible!  How horrible John must feel having failed Dean.  Now he can only hold onto him and pray that both sons will live through the night.

The last passage really got me.  How terrible to look into your child's eyes and see that he knows he's dying.

Author's Response:

Yup, I put the poor boys through the noose in this story LOL :) - John has to fight hard to save his boys, and I wanted to show his softer side, I love his character ;)

What a beautiful end to this chapter!  Finally John's caught on that Dean is as injured as Sam.

The way Dean expresses his thoughts is hilarious!  "But I'm pretty sure that when my arm and leg decide to wake up and join the party in my chest, I'm definitely going to have to pass out."  You've captured his sarcastic wit perfectly!  I switch from laughing to nearly crying in nearly every paragraph.

Author's Response:

Aw, thanks again hun :) LOL - doing a marathon reading session LOL :) - Glad you liked this chapter, poor John was a bit oblivious, but he gets better :)

Oh wonderful. Absolutely brilliant.

"My guilty conscious is going to be the death of me" - how that sums up Sam, always feeling guilty for something. But somehow I think his lies were more white than black this time.

I have enjoyed every single line of this story and could carry on reading it forever. This final chapter will be added to my printout so that I can enjoy it again and again from the comfort of my bed.

Your muse may have struggled with the final part of this story, but I hope its full of new stories for your fans to enjoy.

that ending hurts. dean's just going to get hurt all over again. it's so sad. i know sammy has to do what he has to do. i just wish he didn't have to lie about it to save dean. but dean won't fight for himself. he will always fight for sammy. and that's exactly what he did again.

great job on this story. it was so well done. i was engrossed in the story from beginning to end.

Author's Response:

Aw sorry hun :) - I know the ending was bitter-sweet but I'm glad you liked it.  I wanted to find a way for Dean to hold on, plus Sam to realise how much Dean needs him, as he needs Dean :)
