I love Dean in this story so much.

The best part was his note to Sam.

Freaky psychic little brothers welcome here.

I couldn't help grinning at that part.

Also, I LOVED Sam taking care of Dean. I love when they take care of each other.

It's just so sweet and I love that.

Author's Response:

This was the first story I'd written where I actually named the chapters - just a wee bit of trivia there for you - lol. And it was an absolute bear trying to come up with the one for the fourth chapter!

I like the tables being turned for a change, too, with Sam having to be the big brother for a while. But Dean always drops back into his proper role before too long - lol.

Thanks so much for reading, Laina.

Thanks Jules for another great story.   I first read this one some months back and found it again tonight and re read it.  I always enjoy your stories, they are so well written and I love the flow that they have.  Whenever I need a good story to read ( or re-read) I always look for yours.  Thanks again.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Marcia.

I'm trying to work on something new at the moment - a few things are seriously getting in the muse's way, but hopefully after next weekend things will settle down.

So glad you enjoyed this one. It was a tiny bit of a departure for me, in that it was the first story where I named the chapters. But I liked the idea of the progression of an explosion, and marching the story through the phases.

Again, thanks so much, hope you've been keeping well, and I'm thrilled you find stories of mine to keep going back to.

I really am enjoying the stories regarding Sam's grief over JW death.  It was never really discussed at all.  Only Dean's guilt.  I know for the show they'd run out of time and had to cover the psychic story line.  So thanks!  looking forward to the next one.

Author's Response:

Yes, I was a bit disappointed too, that the show didn't touch on how Sam felt about losing his dad. Even though he wasn't as close to John as Dean was, it still would have hurt, and Sam had the added guilt of having argued with John just before his death, and not getting any of that resolved.

And of course, there was John blaming Sam for Dean getting hurt, which Sam didn't have a chance to resolve either. So there must have been a lot going on inside his head at the time, and I'm sure his determination to throw himself into the hunt was his way of trying to make amends.

Thanks, Leslie, glad you enjoyed this.

Wonderful story!  What a great idea to build a story around what you imagined happened behind the scenes!  Thanks for sharing it with me.  Funny that Sam who normally shares his feelings so easily had to be smashed to open up to Dean.  Kind of role reversals there.

Author's Response:

Thank you, Shannon. And thanks for sharing your thoughts.

And yes, that was a turnaround - it's usually Sam being caring and sharing, and Dean who has to be practically split in two to open up on how he really feels.

But to me, Sam's pain and guilt after their father's death wasn't really explored - Dean's was, but not Sam's. Not that I'm knocking the decision to explore Dean's state of mind in season 2, but we only got little hints of how Sam felt.

And every time he tried to bring it up, Dean shut him down, unable to deal with Sam's pain when his own was so devastating. So I think Sam internalised quite a lot of angst and remorse, and sooner or later, that stuff would have to come out. Whether it be in a typical Sam-explosion, or coaxed out of him in a moment of weakness - ie, being smashed out of his gourd.

And of course, Sam said it so succinctly in the story - "You never want to talk about Dad."

Thank you so much for giving me your feedback, and for reading. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the ride.

Take care,

Jules

Great chapter!  The mannerisms and dialog is perfect!

Poor Sam!  I can't wait to find out exactly what happened in the past.

Author's Response:

And hi again!

Sam keeps a lot locked inside, despite the fact that, especially in the early seasons, he was the more expressive one. But I think he buries hurt and pain quite deep, like his brother and father....especially his father. So it makes sense to me that it would come back to haunt him at the most inopportune times, such as a hunt gone wrong where his beloved brother was hurt.

Thanks so much for reading.

Great opening chapter!  So far both boys have gotten their hurt on (good for me- not for them).  And I love it when Sam gets all bad-ass to protect his brother!

Author's Response:

Hi, Shannon,

Thank you, and welcome to another crazy ride - lol. Oh, and I know what you mean about Sam being bad-arse and protective. People are so used to him being the protected one that sometimes I think we forget that Sam's got a protective streak a mile wide when it comes to Dean, and he can be just as deadly.

And yep, the boys have been bashed already, especially my poor Deany-babe - lol. Thanks so much.

Drunk Sammy...a definite kink of mine!

You wrote him beautifully buzzed! All floppy and limp armed in the chair. Giggles.

I love the part where Sam goes all 'Clint Eastwood' on the bar guy...he he! 'Well, are you going to draw that knife or whistle dixe?' LOL.

Great story...really great!
You are such fun time!
Thank you!
Karen

Author's Response:

Drunk Sammy's pretty funny, isn't he? I had fun with Drunk Sammy.

So glad you liked Sam channelling his inner John when the bar bloke came after him. I wouldn't want to take him on, that's for sure - lol.

I have Drunk Sammy in a couple of other stories - actually I have High!Sammy in one of them - drugged and completely off his face,  much to Dean's horror - LOL. Hope you enjoy that one when you stumble across it.

And thank you again for your wonderful reviews. They're my sunshine.

You are so right. Sam does make a funny drunk. Thanks for the smile amidst all the pain.

Author's Response:

He does make a hilarious drunk, doesn't he? A lot of people didn't like the episode Playthings, but I thought drunk Sam was gorgeous.

Thanks for the review and all the pretty stars, Midge.

Oh I so loved Little brother taking charge and taking care of Dean and then the angst- and of course Dean setting Sam straight.  Just loved every minute! :0) Gidget

Author's Response: Sam makes a great Mamma Bear, doesn't he? But he had a good teacher - lol. It's nice to switch the roles around every now and then, and see what Sam will do with his temporary big brother status. Thanks for reading, hon. So happy you loved it....Jules

You didn't but u did awsomly good. DOWN BOY or GIRL! (HAHAHA) Now that's funny. I love it. See SAM is a MAN and not a GIRL as his brother once told him.

Author's Response: Thank you for that. Yes, Sam makes a good big brother, doesn't he? He's had a good teacher - lol. Glad you liked the first chapter....Jules

very nice wrap up Jules, I enjoyed this one.  See you on the next one - Kel ;)

Author's Response: Thank you Kel - oh, and thanks for that wonderful image of the boys covered in oil from your comment on the main page.... Glad you liked this one - I was a bit worried about the final chapter - thankfully it turned out all right....Jules

"No big deal?" Dean studied the wide spread of his sibling's shoulders. The kid's all grown up. He felt a bittersweet pride in his little brother. "Huh. Well, glad you didn't drop me on my ass."

He sounded so much like a parent with this sentence..the way he kept referring to Sam as 'kid' even in the series.

I think Sam is worried that if they don't have a lot more in common then Dean might somehow think less of him? come on Sam, Dean would still love you, and will forgive you for anything!

I enjoyed it. i always enjoyed your stories, even though it takes me a while to review it. LOL be waiting for your next one.  :p

Author's Response:

Thank you for that, hon. Yes, Dean really does rather take ownership - or parentship - over Sam doesn't he? And Dean's comment in the S3 finale was really significant, when he was talking about not giving in to the demons - reminding Sam that their dad made a deal for Dean, and then Dean made the same deal for Sam - that really spoke to me about how Dean has acted as father as well as brother to Sam.

As for Sam being worried about what they have in common - I think he was so surprised by Dean's jacked dream and the fractured relationship his beloved big brother had with the dream Sam that he was trying to find as much common ground as he could to make Dean see just how much they really are connected.

Thanks for reading - I'm really pleased that you follow my work. It honours me....Jules

Great story, too bad it was so short, I really like your stories.

Author's Response:

Thanks for that. Yes, it was a little short one. But I've found that some ideas don't really lend themselves to a long story. There's nothing worse than trying to drag out an idea or a storyline and padding it with guff to make the story a certain length. And with this story's focus being on Sam's little guilt trip, that really only happened over a chapter and a half - the rest was setting the scene.

But don't worry - there are longer stories in the works. Thanks so much for your review - they're gold....Jules

Thank you, for a wonderful story, lovely ending.

Looking forward to the next one.

Author's Response: Thanks for that. So glad you liked the ending - I really wasn't sure whether I had thrown too much into their conversation. Glad it worked out all right....Jules

excellent story, your dialogue sounds exactly like the boys.

Can't wait for your next story, thanks

Author's Response: Lol - thank heavens for that! Seriously though, thank you. That's one of the nicest compliments you can pay a writer. Thanks for reading, and for taking the time to leave me a lovely cookie - I mean a review. Hope to see you on the next one.....Jules

Great story!!  Dean did a good job of training Sam!!  But they both suck at "Feelings101" thanks to John!!  Good job!

Author's Response: Feelings 101 - ROFL. I love that. Yes, they are failing miserably at that subject, aren't they? And I agree, Dean did a wonderful job with Sam. He can be truly proud of the man Sam's turned out to be. Thanks so much for reading, and for your review. They are gold....Jules

Bravo, Jules, bravo!  The dialogue and banter here was so superb that I literally could hear the boys voices in my head.  A perfect ending to a great story.

Author's Response: Thanks Vanessa. Oh, you could? Thank you - that makes me feel so much better about the final chapter. It's not often I have the boys just sitting around talking, but the scene the night before just lent itself to a few quiet brotherly moments. I'm just thankful that I pulled it off.....Jules

Great story once again!! Love that brotherly bonding. I look forward to your next story. Make it soon!!

Author's Response: Thank you, Sharon. And I know you're looking forward to more Sammy angst from the next story. You can stop bouncing - the next chapter is about to go up - lol. Thanks hon - not only for your reviews, but for faithfully following me from story to story, and for your continued support...*hugs*.....Jules

Brilliant ending it was all emotional and I loved it. Please keep writing your wonderful stories.

Author's Response: Thank you so very much for that. I'm actually taking a little break after the next one - not long, just a few weeks to recharge the batteries in the muse. I've been opening up the works in progress and just staring at what I've already written, so I figure my mind is a bit worn out. But I'll be back - the writing bug has bitten me too deeply for me to stay away for long....Jules

Very nice story - I really enjoyed reading it -- good brotherly moments!

Author's Response: Thank you! And thanks so much for leaving a review. I'm glad it entertained you. The boys give us just so much good stuff to work with - I don't think the Fanfiction community will run out of ideas any time soon - lol.....Jules

Reviewer: fredo (Signed) · Date: 05/09/08 01:28 PM · On: Epilogue - Recovery

I could read and read and read about brotherly moments like these. Well, at least when they're well written like here. Nice story, and I absolutely love the title of the next one. Can't wait!

Author's Response: Thank you my friend. Those boys are so precious, aren't they? Can't wait for the premiere of S4.... I'm happy that you enjoyed it, and that it wasn't too over the top. It's easy to do, especially when you're a female trying to write from a male perspective - it's an interesting exercise - lol. However, PMS really helps with fight scenes - ROFL! Thanks hon.....Jules

Reviewer: SupernaturalGeek (Signed) · Date: 05/09/08 10:27 AM · On: Epilogue - Recovery

That was a nice ending. I enjoyed Dean making Sam feel better, and then Sam returning the favour. And it was sweet and slightly amusing when Sam was busy changing Dean's dressing while trying (unsuccesfully) not to hurl! It's a lucky for him he did such a good job though, otherwise he really would be in so much trouble for betting Dean's baby - which leads to this line being my fave here:

"And as soon I get these sutures out, this will be me kicking your ass for betting the Impala on a pool game."

I will look forward to the next one and am insanely jealous how easily prolific you are *sighs*

Author's Response:

Thanks Michaela...*hugs*....and thanks for vetting this one for me. I really appreciate. You know I'm your number 2 fan - and that's only because Sarah slipped in before me and pinched the number 1 spot - lol. Are our jerseys ready yet?...*grins*...

As for prolific - well, I wouldn't call it that, considering some of the WIP's have been sitting in the folder waiting to be finished for over a year.... But thank you - I'm chuffed that you enjoyed the banter and the little chick-flick moments......Jules

Reviewer: vonnie836 (Signed) · Date: 05/09/08 07:18 AM · On: Epilogue - Recovery

Awesome story, really loved the ending, the chick flick and the banter. Just how I like it. Well done. Can't wait for that look into Sam's head. Hugs, Vonnie

Author's Response: Thanks so much for that, Vonnie. You know, when I first started writing SN fanfiction, I avoided getting too deeply into Sam - I wasn't sure how to write him. Couldn't quite get inside his head, and really didn't want to get him wrong. I feel I've grown to understand him over the last year and a half. Well, I hope so. He's cute, but he's got as many layers to him as his adorable big brother. Glad you liked this one.....Jules
