Fantastic! It's still out there. You had me believing they'd finally killed it. Is there a sequel in the offing? I mean, the thing isn't going to stop until it gets Dean or dies. I especially liked the song of death it sang to Dean and how beautifully you described it, how it touched both Winchesters.

Fabulous! We should have thought about fire to cleanse the wound of poison since it's the only thing that effectively works on the creature. I just had a duh! moment.

What an agonizing chapter! I'm in such a rush to finish this battle---all caught up in the battle of wills. they were surrounded by death. Dead trees reaching like fingers into the sky. The ground littered with the remains of life, long gone, dry, dusty, dead. He could still hear the small sounds of life in the forest, muted now with the coming of night. The day shifting into darkness. Great way to set the stage and begin the chapter! Right away we're drawn back into the despair of the Winchesters and the agony the forest has suffered for an endless time. Sam's perspective on the moment when he realizes Dean knows he's dying was astounding. I felt like I'd been gut-punched. the awkwardness between the brothers was off-set by sympathy and understanding. It was very strong yet sensitive.

So how much influence does it have with Dean's mind? I mean, it sounds very manipulative not only with mind games but with its touching Dean's mind. Now that's a formidable opponent!

Completely stunning! It had emotion, incredible passages, heart and most of all that undaunted Winchester spirit born of brotherly love. pulling life away leaving only silence. It moved, slowly, weaving a path through the darkness, a pattern woven a thousand times, the complexity of the dance of death. A very beautiful passage--- you made something horrible almost become a thing of timeless beauty. a tapestry of death woven on his body. Such a strong word picture. It not only creates a vision in my mind but incorporates the fragility of life and the vulnerability of the human body. The forest had grown dark, the stars withdrawn from it. Their eyes had looked down as it had walked the dark places of the earth, they knew what it was, what was coming and they looked away. Dark was complete, the ring of fire a tiny splash in an ocean of night. Nothing was moving, even the wind was silent, holding its breath waiting for the shadow shape. Another powerful passage that also sucks us into our head, paints a photo in your mind and makes you hold your breath along with the night.

The description of its eyes was chilling! And still we have no idea what it is. At this point I don't need a physical description. you tell us so much about it--- its ancient, the bringer of thousands of deaths. Sam?! Yahoo! Just like in the show, Sam uses Dean's words against him, uses them to bolster and comfort, uses them with resolve and determination. Wow! Its been stalking Dean all these years?! Using first his John and now Sam to torture him and learn about him. EeeeK! That's ultra creepy!

Dean? Are you alive? I need you to be alive, I need to know that before I die, Dean. Are you still there? How sad! Strange how neither brother will leave the other one to be killed but they don't seem to mind dying and leaving the other one alone. You do a lot of light/dark in this story which is cool! Not just the day to night but the way you describe the creature--- dark shadow, black on black, sucking in the light, death dark. Very descriptive and it gives us a hint of the fear that Sam and Dean are living. Not knowing what it is but knowing how horrible it is. It also makes me think about the good vs. evil. The creature brings darkness and the silence of something unnatural with it whereas Sam and Dean create light, fire and are part of the life around them in the woods. the squirrels and the black and blue birds are drawn to them. they fit into the scheme of life. The creature obviously doesn't.

It's letting me know it can take us anytime. It's done playing. The war has begun. In every chapter you break the strategy down into a few words to let us (and Dean) know what the creature is thinking, what it's planning. You've shown us almost from the first chapter that this creature is intelligent. I'm surprised Dean has let it go this long. He doesn't seem to have used all his resources to fight it. Hopefully, now he'll think smart and be able to do a little more than hold his own when it attacks. He's been the mouse too long for this big cat. Dean talking to himself about the squirrel army and his delirium was clever. It's a much better way than telling us he's delirious. Letting us step into his mind to know his random thoughts is a good technique. Poor Sammy--- thinking that his hand is gone. I'm glad he and Dean are together again! I love how you show Sam's part of his conversation with Dean! He may not be able to speak but he still has thoughts he can communicate. It's a testament to their familial bond that Dean knows what he's saying. When Dean decided to stay in their shelter I was yelling at the computer (just like I do the TV) "don't do it! Get the hell out of there!"

Damn! Sam's dead?! Dean has to save him!! Yep, that creature just made the fatal mistake. He's stew now. the sounds of night starting slowly, building from a whisper to a conversation all around him. I like how you describe the breaking dawn. When I'm up early I enjoy listening to nature awaken, hear the birds begin quietly and get louder. I wasn't sure what you were going to throw at Dean this time--- Sam or the torso that belonged to the severed hand.

I hope he's alive. Oh, god, I hope that's the right hope to have. That sentence made me pause to think. Sam might not be in good condition when Dean finds him--- living might be worse than dying. I hope that it's only the bracelet that belongs to Sam and not really the hand. *crosses fingers* I think you're trying to drive me crazy with this story. Tearing a me with every little piece you post. :) The monster better enjoy the fun while it lasts because its going to regret what the Winchesters are going to do to it.

Finally sleep! I was beginning to wonder how long he would go without sleep before keeling over from exhaustion. The silent jerk/bitch between them was a unique touch. It also goes a long way in showing how well the boys know one another. A nice parking lot ghost. Hee! That was funny! You surprised me. At first, I thought the beast would come out of no where then when the day progressed and it didn't appear, I thought it might let them get to the Impala having already disabled it. I'm glad to know his baby is still unharmed. The description of Dean's panic when he realizes Sam is gone is marvelous!

Another amazing chapter! I'm still intrigued that we don't know what the creature is, or even have an idea of the shape. That mystery is such a tease! “And you think I lost my mind where?" Typical Dean Winchester remark. Love the sarcasm! I'm surprised that Dean hasn't used his weapons up to this point. Even though he doesn't think they'd work successfully, I'd try anything at this point. I'm glad he's figuring out what the creature is doing, the purpose behind the way it treats them---harming him just enough to get to Sam. What is it that it smells on Sam but not Dean? Is one brother type A and the other type O? Funny that Dean refuses to leave Sam behind but asks the same thing of his brother. Like he really thinks that will happen. And he knew, the realization curling through him, fear touching him, truly touching him for the first time. True fear, the kind that can steal thought, that can take a life and it was growing slowly in him. It’s torturing us… And enjoying it. That is such a gritty passage! So powerful and primal. I can't wait to read the next chapter!

Amazing chapter! You build the tensions marvelously. It builds then wantes then strikes unexpectedly. Very suspenseful! I'm on the edge of my seat. ...put his hands on the back of his head and felt his scalp slip with a squish. Nice. Just great. Ewww! Lovely description! It made my stomach churn and I wanted to curl my fingers into my palms. Yuk! I could almost feel it. Is it hill breeding season or something? Ha! Too funny! First staliking them, then hunting them now playing with them. I can't wait to see what it's doing to them in the next chapter!

Wow! Cool! I love how methodically and logically it hunts Sam and Dean. And attacking Sam was the best way to get to Dean. At the end of the last chapter Dean realizes the creature is stalking them and now he realizes the creature is hunting them. Powerful! I still want to know what it was the creature dropped onto Sam and why Dean was so upset by the puncture wound. I'm guessing body part for the first and a sick, unnatural color for the wound.

A wonderful start! I love the mystery and suspense of knowing there is something but not knowing about it. "Yep, the McDean special at Wendigos. follow the happy trail of blood. Severed human hand. Nice. Always fun." Great expressions of Dean's personality. Of course the creature is stalking them! That's just the Winchester luck!

This is, I think, the scariest thing I have ever read. This creature is so terrifying, so relentless, and so freakin' inescapable, that I was gripped with horror while I read this. And it was with a horrible sinking feeling that I read the last few lines, because somehow I knew that there would be no way to kill that thing. Seriously, seriously well done. You have a gift for horror.
Author's Response: Oh thank you so much! I love this story, I love the sense of, hmm, I dont know, chills? That it produces. I scared myself while writing it and when I reread it, I swear I can hear that purring, breathing in the background. I still think I might do a sequel, the next time they meet it. Thank you again, hugs, Muffy

HAHAAAAA I knew it!!! You couldn't kill that thing! It's too perfect a villain to just kill off in the end... That last line was beautiful in it's horror. It sent ripples up my spine and created a perfect picture in my mind... Ok so you know how I love your favorite lines, right? One last one and then I'm done... For now anyway: "The squirrel looked at him and ran off behind the tree. It was back a minute later carrying his gun. What the hell?" Simple. Beautiful. A perfect summary of a perfect story :D And oh my god what a finish line???! It's still out there. Wonderful job. Brava bella... If I had a rose it would be ours.
Author's Response: Oh thank you so, so much! Again, I am so sorry my replies took so long! I love te squirrels in this story, they were one of those things that kind of grew organically as I moved through it. Somehow Dean tormented by squirrels, even in this situation, seemed right. I do wish he'd managed to train them with tiny flamethrowers. I thought long and hard about killing the thing, but as you say, it was just too good to let it go like that, it didn't seem right for it to be gone in the end. I'm so glad you liked this one! Thank you, thank you! Hugest of hugs, Muffy

Oooooohhh goodness :D:D My nails are officially gone... Chowed down... I know i know. I'm a little alte with the reivew, but I had to pause your story for a long time and now I'm back! Tatar! Loving it and I am SO GLAD that it's already finished because I doubt I would have survived the unbearable waiting for a new chapter!
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so sorry I'm late with my replies! I was stuck back on bed rest and that means limited computer time. Grrr. I'm so glad you're liking this story! Sorry about your nails though! Hugs, Muffy

What a great ending to a gripping story. Your "It's still out there" gave me the chills. Muffy, you did an amazing work.
Author's Response: Oh thank you so much! I feel a little bad about leaving it out there, but as the story grew, I realized that it couldn't be killed so easily. I do have an idea about returning to this storyline sometime! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! Hugs, Muffy!

Thank you, for this brilliant story,iv'e loved every part of it. Even when i was scared witless. So the creepy things still out there, shudders. I enjoyed the stupid Squirrels lol.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I had so much fun writing this! I'm glad I could keep the suspense up, and that the scary bits worked! I realized about halfway through that the scary beastie would still be out there at the end. I do have an idea to return to this creature, it needs to stew a little longer! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! Hugs, Muffy!

Amazing. I've loved every minute of this story, the monster is damned creepy, things you can't see always are more scary. My favourite kind. The connection between the boys in this is just wonderful, and I love the ending. And the thing isn't dead yet??? Absolutely brilliant. Roll on the next one! Mary x
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I love things that you can't see. There is a fabulous short story called "something wicked" I think it's by Bradbury, but don't quote me on that! But you never see the thing and it's scary, scary, scary. I love the boys in this one. Sometimes they are just so easy to write and work with! This story was one that just flowed. I knew the thing wasn't dead, I knew it wouldn't, couldn't be killed easily. But I have a vague idea that might lead to a return to this storyline. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! Hugs, Muffy!

Wow - scary ending! To one hell of a story - all the cryptic fabulousness of a muffy story, vivid imagery, heart-pounding suspense (say again - i'm very very glad i could read all those updates in one go!) and a sting in the tail... Thanks for a great read!
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one--and that it held up in one sitting. That's always a worry. Chapters hold, but does the story? I had such fun writing this one, and after all was said and done, the happy perfect tie up just didn't seem right. The creature had to be out there, still, watching and waiting! "Cryptic fabulousness" I LOVE that. I think I'll change my signature to that! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! Hugs, Muffy!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Sorry, it is still out there! I do hope to return to this storyline sometime and finish it once and for all--or at least send it back where it can't hurt anyone. I realized about halfway through, though, that it wouldn't die, not easily at least! Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! Hugs, Muffy!
