A lot of shockers in this chapter--the suspense is building tremendously. I thought John shot Dean, but having it confirmed was still startling. Puking blood---fabulous injury! His insides must be really messed up from the injury 5 years ago.

Man, I can relate to Dean. I hate when you're ill and people keep yammering in your ear. You just want to whip out a gun and blow their head off. Lovely horse adage. You have a way with words! It's a gift! Wow! What an incredible and powerful flashback! John did try to kill Dean! (But then you know that.) No wonder Dean blocked it.

Awww. No chapter title. the dialogue between sam and Dean in Dr. Mercer's clinic is a riot! NO doubt that they're brothers. "It was true. Both times." Priceless lines!

Oh my stars! John shot Dean?!! On purpose?! (I know---just keep reading and find out.) I like that after a while the cows are referred to as Sam's cows. Love the forehead tattoo bit and the one-fingered point! I can only guess which finger he uses. What a sad dream/memory. Poor Dean.

I love how you write 'that spot' and we know exactly what you mean. Great technique! Such exquisite description in the flashback. I felt like I was there. I especially like the lines where John's tone scares Dean with its gentleness and "as much a kiss as a promise." Very touching and dramatic! Cool bit---the shoe tying thing. that's the kind of information that personalizes a story and sucks me in.

amazing flashback! So action-packed. I almost gasped when I read Dean had run into the werewolf's mate. That damn Winchester luck! You are such a tease! Obviously something unusually awful happened during that hunt that Dean suppressed. My guess is it involved John or Sam.

The utburd is an intresting spirit. I've never heard of it before, but given the circumstances of the deaths it only makes sense there is such a thing. Thanks for the education! I agree with Sam, the concept that created the utburd is more horrendous than the creature itself. You did a great job portraying the way the brothers manipulate one another.

I thought Chipping Away was crying out for a follow on, Cry In The Night is kinda, sorta a follow on (in flash backs), stayed up until 1am to finish reading, I was hooked from start to finish. So John did shoot Dean, I know why he did, but Dean suffered more because of it. It's kind of sick that I enjoy seeing the gorgeous Dean in pain and suffering. Keep up these excelent tales.

To put it mildly, you're fantastic. I love that you can get into those Winchester minds and hearts the way you!! And better still I love that I can get into yours and figure where you're headed next. You're twisted and have a great sense of timing in your story-telling. Now if you just stop beating yourself up over what you imagine as inadequacies in your writing ability. You're AWESOME. Awesome finale. Have I ever mentioned that you write about vomiting very well? Poor Sam, I'd have lost it too. And you had probably mentioned it earlier but, Dean got shot twice??! I thought that he probably had a bullet in him, and that was causing his illness, but I didn't see the twist coming. Caleb is a good friend, but damn you John Winchester! I am looking forward to the VS Terry, and know you and the team will do a bang-up job with it, but I will really miss you on these pages. Try to get back here occasionally. Author's Response: Ta so much for all the nice comments. I really didn't care that much for this story in the beginning but i finally got into it. I'm glad everyone thinks it turned out well, the ending scared me to death. I'll be writing regular stuff from time to time just not a lot for a while. Hope the VS will make up for it.

I have been so desperate to get back to this story, but horrendous-computer-malfunction-resulting-in-hideously-expensive-purchase-of new-computer prevented me. What a nice surprise - to finally arrive back here and have 3 whole chapters to catch up on! I love this chapter. Sam digging his finger into Dean's ear, getting progressively more frantic about him - I just lap it up! And I don't think I'm the only one. Terrific job, on to chapter 10!

I have to say that the thought of Dean with half his guts hanging out is a powerful image. OOOOOOOUCH!!! And poor Sam gets put through the wringer in this one too. Imagine driving 50 miles with your one and only brother hanging on the edge of life and bleeding all over the car next to you. But Dean, yes, wonderful Dean - you are truly evil to him :D I love how your stories have plot and good plot at that. Author's Response: I'm an old dog but I still a decent bark or two left. You see now why I wouldn't tell you. I didn't want to spoil it. I don't get surprised very often either so it's a nice when it happens and catches you totally off guard. Especially when you're doing it to someone else.
