do you know when the next chapter will come out??? i can't wait any longer! Its such a good story!

Author's Response:

I'm sorry...I've got the bulk of it written, its just that I spent this week working on a little project to go along with it for you.  You'll see what I mean when I post the next chapter.

Plus, you know, end of school and all is the busiest time of year for teachers...well, that and the beginning of school.  And, there's been a plethora of graduations (nieces and nephews, high school and college), a wedding shower and all that not so fun stuff, lol.

Unless something dreadful happens, I plan on having it up sometime this week.  I figure I won't get much done over the weekend because we've got to go shopping and then I've got to get my son a suit (he's gonna be ring bearer at for one of my other nephew's wedding).

The good news is, I've finished my other project today and its ready to go when the chapter's ready.  Yea!!!

Hey terrific story, I'm adding it to my favs as we speak.  Looking forward to more - K

Author's Response:

Hey thanks!!! And, I'm sorry its taking me so long to update.  Besides a multitude of showers, graduations, winding down my classroom and the like, I've got a major case of fear induced writer's block.  I have ideas, but I'm terrified of putting them into action because from this next chapter on, there's no turning back.

I do have it started, though, and this is the last week of school (no summer teaching for me) and then I'll hopefully have plenty of time to work on this.

Thank you for the review, it reminds me to put it in gear, lol.

So who exactly is this Hannah chick? I'm dying here! Please update soon!! :0)

~Kayla

Author's Response:

Hi Kayla,

Thanks for the review! Sorry, but I've got at least one more thing to cover before we can explore Hannah, who she is, what her connection to Dean is.  I'm glad you're intrigued by her...hope your not disappointed when you finally figure it out!

I was about to say, that soup wasn't hot enough to burn him like that! Good job, beat me to the draw!

Author's Response:

Yeah, it wasn't the soup, lol. Although, I've gotten take out Egg Drop soup that was hot enough to burn and my niece once gave herself a nasty burn with chili!

Chili as a secret weapon, who knew?  It was awful because she had to keep the area scrubbed to lessen the chances of scarring.  She wouldn't eat chili for years afterward.

Thanks for leaving a review...I'm thrilled to have you reading again!

FINALLY I get to catch up opn this. I'm sure you think i've forgotten you. NEVER. Delicious chapter. Gotta read the next one. By the way, in case you didn't notice I put this on the featured stuff. :)

Author's Response:

*Eyes misting*  You love me!  I'm just kidding.  Thanks, Terry, what a nice surprise on a dismal Tuesday morning.

Nah, I just figured you were busy...I know this is a busy season for you.

Thanks...*sits and anxiously awaits next review*.

“Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!”

I could ask you the same thing NG! How much conflict and pain can I, I mean Dean, take???? This is awesome! I love HurtDean and protective Sam, mainly because we so often get it the other way around. Fabulous work, see you as soon as you update!

Author's Response:

Lol, sorry...should I provide Nitro tablets with each chapter?  But, thanks, I'm thrilled to keep posting and read everyone's extra-nice thoughts.  Yours gave me giggle ;)  Until next time, take care!

Have a great weekend!

What a poignant and emotional chapter. Thank god Sam is there for Dean. Brilliant writing so far Nicole. I so can't wait to know what'll happen next.

Author's Response:

Well, I hope I can work in something big with the next chapter (which I haven't started yet, now, now, back girl!)...I think this next "something" has to occur before we can really get into who is Hannah and what is her connection to Dean.

With every chapter that seems to  be liked, I get more and more nervous about writing the next, lol.  Don't want to disappoint and all that jazz.  But thanks bunches for your words of encouragement...if it were in physical written form, I'd totally have to go out and buy a cute keepsake box to keep them in :) .

Damn -- Dean is sooo in trouble.  His mental agony is killing me. I keep thinking it can't get much worse and you twist his guts even tighter.  Unbelievably great job there.  I keep wanting to yell at Sam to help him or he's going to be too late.  Then I want to yell at Dean to tell Sam. but of course you slammed that door shut too, so not nice.

Can't wait to hear the story of the girl too. Poor Dean, there is nothing he couldn't tell Sam -- is there?

Author's Response:

Ah, well, you'll just have to keep reading to get all of your questions answered *evil laugh*.

Lol, but I'm glad you enjoyed it.  I can't believe anything I've written could provoke yelling at the boys...but it makes me feel good that it did.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

"...help me, I'm drowing, man."  WOW! I was about to give up hope on a new chapter and you gave me one, and an absolutely bone-chilling one at that!

Come on Sammy - figure this out quick and save your bro!

Author's Response:

Hey there, Tree!  No, don't ever give up on me...it'd have to be pretty major to make me quit on y'all.  I appreciate each reviewer way too much to just leave the story hanging forever.  There were times when I'm sure everyone thought I'd abandoned "The Wake-Up Call" but I muddled through eventually.

As for the drowning man part, sometimes I see that in Jensen's portrayal of Dean...I could be reading too much in his facial expressions, but this is how I see Dean.

I'm so surprised at how much people seem to like this one, considering how lack-luster I thought it was...it's been a welcome surprise for me.  Hope my surprises for you all are equally welcome ;)

 And, thanks, Tree.

I was soooo happy to see you had a new chapter up. It is fabulous as always - just what I needed - lots of hurtDean and creepy supernatural beings. Who is Hannah? Should I know her? Can't wait to find out... Great chapter. Great job!

Author's Response: No, no...I surely hope you don't know who Hannah is, at least not yet, lol.  And thank you, thank you, I can't say it enough...I'm happiest when you all are pleased with what you've read.

Reviewer: GotTheShining (Signed) · Date: 25/04/07 08:56 PM · On: Holding it Together

love the tug o war Dean has with his emotions, wanting to hide them while wanting Sam to help in at the same time. And Sam--he just never gives up``Gotta love that determination.

Author's Response:

Poor Dean.  I think he'd be mortified if Sam really did "see" him, but I really believe that deep down he'd like to let go and be helped, be seen.  Who doesn't at some point?

And Sam.  If he's anything, it's determined. I think that's part of John in him.

I'm glad you enjoyed this.  I put in a little more introspection than the last one because that's what I tend to do a little better...and I'm glad it seemed to have worked out :).  Thanks for the review.

Sweet chapter, Nicole! This one was very creepy. Dean is just a mess. A beautiful mess. *laugh* Great work.

-Sojourner

Author's Response:

Oooo, creepy...really?  I like that...I'll take creepy, lol.

* deep sigh* Dean is just beautiful no matter what he's doing...or at least I think so.

Thanks for review, I wondered if you'd like it or not and I'm very happy that you're pleased.

Ah, Nicole, a wonderful chapter...I've come to expect nothing less!

We all know that Dean walks a very fine line between the light and dark sides of his soul, but the way you wrote about his struggle and guilt was heartbreakingly vivid. The paragraph in which he sees himself as an open wound left me breathless! Can't wait for more!

Kelly

Author's Response: Kelly, I want to thank you for making a girl smile.  Long week made better by a few words. I'm glad you found the descriptions to be vivid...I really hope so.  The more vivid the better, at least I think so.  Thank you.

Just wanted to let you know I love the story.  I never read stories as they are written. I wait till they are done, because I need instant gratification.  But your stories are so good, I am breaking my rule and reading as it is posted.  Can't wait till you are finished.

I loved what you had the "NotSam" say to keep Dean from telling Sam what happened in the bathroom. It is exactly what would make him suffer in silence.

Author's Response:

I hear ya about the instant gratification.  A fic has to really catch my attention to get me to read it as a WIP.  I, too, need to sit and read all at once.

I'm so flattered that you're making an exception for me.  Thank you.

Reviewer: sojourner84 (Signed) · Date: 16/04/07 06:47 PM · On: What Waits in the Dark

Oh my!! What the...Is he going to be...What the...Not Sam...Gah!!! What the crap are you trying to do to me? Poor Dean... Great work, Nicole! More please. :)

-Sojourner

Author's Response:

Oh, thanks, I really appreciate that...really.  I was going to work on it tonight, but I'm watching the news about the shootings instead.  It makes me so sad.

I'm really enjoying reading your story.  It keeps me on the edge of my seat (or bed, as in most cases, reading after a long day of classses and work.)  Keep up the good work.

Nelles

Author's Response:

Hey Nelles, thanks...sounds like you're kept pretty busy if you're working and schooling.  I'm honored that you spend your free time reading me :).

Have a great week and stay safe,

This is so great! I've spent all weekend working on this horrific project for my stats class, so you have no idea how thrilled I was to see you had posted a new chapter!! Beautifully and movingly written as usual! With every installment I'm more and more eager to find out what the deal is with these voices! Thanks for making my weekend!

Author's Response:

Oh, how the pressure builds :) Don't worry, its a good problem to have.

Ugh, I'm glad college is far, far behind me.  Just keep telling yourself that one day it will all be a distant memory. I'm happy I was able to make someone's day...makes me feel like I'm paying it forward for all the times someone updated something I was reading and it made my day better.

And, no, thank you for reading and reviewing...hope this week fare's better for ya.

I am really enjoying this story, it was such a nice surprise to find the next chapter up! I love it that Sam telling Dean he was scaring him was enough to still the voices in Dean's head for a while. And I am intrigued about the girl who has now been substituted for Daniel at the cliff: literally a cliffhanger! Poor Dean. Fantastic work, hurry back please!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you got a good surprise, I was so impressed by the good response last chapter got that I worked hard to get it up earlier than usual.  *Sigh* I wish I could say the same about the next one, but work will take up some of my free time the next two weeks.

And, intrigued you should be...heh, heh.

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.

Okay, I'm hooked! Completely hooked. I need to know what happens, and soon! Update asap!

:0p

~Kayla

Author's Response:

Hi Kayla,

Ooo, yea, hooked is good!  Hooked is very good.  Glad you liked it.  Take deep breaths, it'll take me at least a week to update, depending on how much goes on this week, maybe two.  Sorry, I'm hurrying, really.

Thanks so much for the review!

Oh, anxiously awaiting to discover the ghosts of Dean's past.

Author's Response: Hey, thanks for the review...ghosts, indeed, lol.  Poor Dean, he's such a good sport letting us torment him so.

Reviewer: lam (Signed) · Date: 15/04/07 07:30 PM · On: What Waits in the Dark

OK - TWO cookies!!! Actually, I want to give you the whole box now, but then what can I give you next time? Thank you for Dean in his boxers - I knew you wouldn't let me down. Poor Sammy - Dean's screaming AGAIN! (keep up the good work) As always fabulous plot AND characterization. I know that somehow Dean will figure out a way to tell Sam what's going on - damned if I can figure it out though... Can't wait for your next chapter - unlimited cookies coming your way.

Author's Response:

Ooo, thanks...*gobbles up cookies*...I was hungry.  Whoa, though, now I feel the pressure to keep up with your expectations...*sweats*...I'll do my best.

It feels so good to actually have people notice there is a plot.  It's kinda fun having one, unlike some of my other stuff, where I meandered all over creation, lol.

Reviewer: Oceane (Signed) · Date: 15/04/07 06:24 PM · On: What Waits in the Dark

Poor Dean, he's getting worse and worse, physically and mentally. He can't even tell anything to Sam in fear that Sam'll die. And what's about that young girl. Riveting and so suspenseful chapter, I'm at the edge of my seat waiting for the next chapter.

Author's Response:

Thank you, thank you...so relieved you enjoyed it.  I tried some new techniques this time around and I'm glad it didn't mess anything up.

I feel bad to leave you all on another cliffie, but it was such a great place to stop.  Sorry *grins*.

Thanks for reading and for the lovely review:)

Reviewer: Tree66 (Signed) · Date: 15/04/07 04:12 PM · On: What Waits in the Dark

NG- You must have read my mind - cause I was getting pretty antsy waiting for the next chapter. Now- here I go again- waiting on the next- LOL.

Awesome as usual, although you have me seriously perplexed by who/what is tormenting Dean. And now the whole "this isn't the first innocent kid you've murdered" AGHHHHHHHHH!

Wonder if Dean would share the Percocet - cause I sure am in agony right along side him.

Author's Response:

Why are you in agony?  Not this...surely, lol.  Well, I would've had this up sooner, but ff.net is giving me fits and I always copy and paste it from there to save myself the trouble of reformatting from Word.

Sorry, I know, another cliffie, and I won't have as much time this week to work on a new chapter, work stuff.  Ugh.  I promise though, I'll try to get extra sleep this week so maybe I'll be lucid enough at night to write before bed.

No, I'm not usually lucid enough. My husband often says my eyes look like a frog in a blender...says the red brings out the green, lol.

Big thanks for the review...:)

Books are defentaly better than movies! well execpt for a few that equal the book. If some of them had jensen in them it would get better reviews hahaha  This is a good story can't wait for the rest.

Oh, well then, you're in luck because I'm posting the next chapter today :).  I'm glad you're liking it....thanks so, so much for reading.
