This made me bawl. Honestly, I felt my heart sort of clamp up and then break. You've really got the tragedy of Dean's identity crystallized here, and it's so beautiful and effing tragic it makes me want to sob.
Poor, poor freakin' Dean. He never had a chance.

Purely by coincidence I watched 'Something Wicked' just before I logged on tonight, so I was exactly in the right headspace for this special fic.
Your idea of Dean's insecurities being echoed in the words from 'Velveteen Rabbit' and his intuitive understandings of how these words related to his life was amazing - you are such a diverse thinker and writer, your concepts blow me away everytime.
Your portrayal of Dean's guilt and his deep fear of not being loved for who he really is was soul shattering. Such an emotional piece of writing with a concept that rocks us to our core.
Pastor Jim's honesty in his "I don't know" made my breath hitch, and his reference to his wife made me teary. But mostly my tears were for young Dean - this is a powerful piece of work.
For me, Dean settling with "they're real to me" is just SO Dean, his idea that he's not worthy and that's ok...you sure nailed him here. Doesn't mean it really is this way, but what's Dean's perception is what matters.
Your imagery of the boys, especially Sam clinging to each other in their sleep really packed a punch. Brilliant work.
And your conclusion? Loved this to bits -"Because even if John never did, Sam would come to understand. His brother was the Real deal." Beautiful.
