Wow. Way to go. You've added another story to my "list of stories that I wish I'd written".

I read The Things They Carried - I revere it, too. :]

Seriously, this was good. Way good.

Author's Response: thank you!  it means so much that you know and revere the original and can still tolerate mine.  thank you.

I was surprised to read that they carry the organ pipe and the iron hoodoo flower pot.

They carry each other's laughter in their heatr on good days and they carry each other broken and bloody and weary on bad days.  So beautiful!  Amazing job!

Author's Response:

thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed it.

i didn't mean to imply they still carried around the flower pot and organ pipe...more like picked them up along the way and carried them as far as they needed them.

thank you again for the review

Wow, this is brilliant. I loved the way you wrote this, showing the things they carry themselves, those little details tell a lot about their personalities, and the things they carry together. I mean, basically this's mostly a list of different things but it made me feel more than any list that I've ever read before. Amazing writing. I also liked the things you had added, like that birthday card. You conveyed Sam and Dean wonderfully as individuals and together as hunters and brothers. There are so many lines I'd like to quote...

"And they carry within themselves an inner light of love and compassion to surpass the brightness of sun glinting through a stained-glass window in church." I read this line and this image popped into my head, it was so beautiful it almost took my breath away. I don't have words for how beautiful it was and then I thought that this 'light within themselves' is even more beautiful and I was like... wow.

"They carry each other's laughter in their heart on good days and they carry each other broken and bloody and weary on bad days." That's what they do, very well captured.

"And together they carry it all." What a perfect ending.

Author's Response:

thank you so much for such a lovely review.  it warms my heart to know it resonated with you so well and that the images were tangible.

 thank you.

I read this three times!!! And I enjoyed each one just as much...

You put a LOT of thought into this and it shows, beautiful insight into what makes the boys tick, and written with almost no actual emotion, although as the reader I felt SO much. All those little details of thing that were never mentioned on the show, the stone caught in Johns boot, the card Sam made for Dean when he was 5, they all made me want to read a whole lot more about them.

It's as though for every one of these titbits from your imagination, you have given us a seperate fic in our imaginations...

Beautifulle executed! And VERY deserving of a feature! XX Louy

Author's Response:

Louy!  You make me blush!  lol.

the fact that you read it 3 times amazes me and means a lot to me.

I'm so glad you liked the added detail items, too.  they made me smile thinking of them.

thank you, again.  thank you.

Wow, Anna, truly thought provoking and so deserving of it's feature. This comprehensive catalogue, pieces together, shred by touching shred the makings of these heroic characters. I enjoyed how you blended the material and emotional things both brothers carry. The way you plotted your descriptions was very clever - what they carry separately that defines them as individuals is laid alongside what they carry and uphold together as a hunting unit, as devoted brothers. Loved this;"the repetition of saying their brother's name like a prayer or a battle cry." It's a lot like the things they carry - simple but powerful. Each brother is for the other - the Cause and the Cavalry.

Your ending is so uplifting - I was really touched by this;"They carry each other's laughter in their heart on good days and they carry each other broken and bloody and weary on bad days."

You give such a clear picture of that road they have traveled and all the twists and turns they have taken together. Awesome job - Congratulations!!!!!!

Author's Response:

Abi, wow. Thank you.  I am so glad that you enjoyed the story and took from it all that you did.  it means a lot to me that you did.  thank you!

I'm honestly at a loss for words here... just ... OMG.  I´m a complete emotional wreck right now, and it's all because of you!!  lol, but seriously this was amazing! every single thing they carry made me sigh and smile and love them even more, if that's even possible! Thanks sooo much for the beautiful story, it made my day!

Author's Response:

thank you so much for the kind words. i'm glad you the story meant that much to you.  That makes my day.

Anna.

That's wonderful and how appropriate for PropGirl to write about things tangible and also in-tangible!

The references to what they carry in their heart and soul's are beautiful and I salute and endorse your Feature.

Atticus and Boo Radley are very proud of ya too!

bev xx

Author's Response:

thank you bev, it means a lot.  and though i didn't notice it before, i guess it does make sense for the prop gal to write a list of inanimate objects.

thank you again for the kind words.  and give the birdies a kiss for me.

awww...that was awesome, prop!! just really loved it!! really loved this part...

For the most part they carry themselves with poise, a kind of dignity. Now and then, however, there are times of panic. There are times when things wing out of control and the only thing keeping them focused is adrenaline, the need to protect the other, and repetition of saying their brother's name like a prayer or a battle cry. There are times when the weight of fear for what the Things in the Dark have planned for them is almost too much to bear. They carry palpable fear of losing each other, much more so than concern for their own lives. And they carry within themselves an inner light of love and compassion to surpass the brightness of sun glinting through a stained-window in church.

well deserving of a feature...beautifully done!! bambers;)

Author's Response: Thank you, bambers!  I m so glad you enjoyed it.  The piece, and the original, mean a lot to me.  Thank you so much for the review.

Absolutley amazing. The idea, the creativity, the expression and emotion, the flicking between material items, memories and personality traits...Yes, I am breathless!

I was blown away from beginning to end, but this really stole my breath "...and repetition of saying their brother's name like a prayer or a battle cry." Just awesome!!

You have nailed everything about these boys, about their story, about their journey, about their hearts, about their relationship. I sure will be seeking out the original short story which inspired you to write this stunning piece of work. Great job!

Author's Response: Hey Cookie, thank you for the kind review.  my smile is fit to split my face. (smirk).  I am so glad that you enjoyed this story and that you obviously got everything about it because this story, and the original, mean a great deal to me.  And, yes, please do seek out the original. it's part a book with the same title.    Thank you again, annA

As soon as I read the title I got all tingly.  I love that book and it lends itself beautifully for an adaptation to Supernatural.  You did a wonderful job.  The tone and pace were perfect.  I love the draw on things known and the things you made up.  The ending was a great conclusion that the most obvious thing they carry is each other and have no problems with that.

Great story.  I deserves to the recognition it has gotten.

Author's Response: I am so glad to find someone who loves the original book as much as I do.  And more than that, I'm glad knowing the original didn't ruin reading this adaptation.  Thank you so much for the review.
