Love this story.  I like thinking of Dean having friends.  He should have them.  You handle the emotions well in the story, I am planning on reading all the stories you have written.  Keep it up!

Wonderful!  John really did slip up when he almost referred to Caleb as Dean's brother.  Ooops!  Like the hunters didn't know what bug was up his butt already.

What an emotional oneshot. The anger, desperation and feelings of helplessness and lack of control from every character you mentioned bu screamed out of here!

I so love Caleb standing up to John when he's protecting Dean. "You can't turn me on and off like a faucet, you sanctimonious bastard...I've been here for too damn long and...You aren't kicking me out." Stunning work. And that second ditto spoke volumes of Caleb's stance and thinking.

John losing it like that, you showed us what John is really feeling about Sam being gone, despite his bravado and tough-warrior exterior, he's as heartsick and scared as Dean is. Brilliant, John's true heart only exposed when his control slips.

Dean's intermal dialogue was brilliant when he tried to intervene in his Dad's outburst and i loved your description of Caleb and Dean warrior auro through Silas's eyes. Awesome portrayal of our boys.

And of course Dean's "God, I miss him" in his vulernable state tore my heart out, Dean voicing the issue everyone is quietly treading around that's got everyone on edge.

Thanks for the insight, this was a much needed recount of Sam's absence from the Brotherhood.

i've read this one on Hunterstomb's before, but finding it here gives me the chance to say how much i liked it. Dean's pain is almost palpable, it's heartbraking.

You've really captured the terrible misery that surrounded John and Dean after Sam left.  As usual poor Dean ends up taking the brunt of all the pain.  "Didn't you hear, Damien?  I've had worse." really summed up the lack of care and compassion Dean feels from his dad.

I love Caleb and Dean together and all the seething resentment towards John from Bobby and Caleb.  Poor John is his own worst emeny, venting his anger in all the wrong places.

The Jonny Cash lyrics really nailed this one.  Very touching story.  Thanks.  Jane

I've read this before on Hunterstomb but I'm happy now for the chance to leave you a review.

I loved this short.  It's so perfectly done and I can totally just see Dean's pain.  Thanks for the great read - Kel
