This was a wonderful insight into the troubled, conflicting thougts that Dean must have been having after the events of that episode.

I love how you had Dean so hesitant to go in, but then when he saw the light, there was no turning back. And Fr Reynolds' insights into my favourite hunter were so spot-on and so poignant.

This was a great read, and I'm glad that you decided to venture out and share your talent. Sorry I haven't gotten around to this before, but I'm a bit of a hermit on this site - don't come out of my cave very often. Looking forward to spending a little more time with your stories.....Jules

Author's Response:

Lol!!! I am a bit of a cave- lurker myself these days - tis the season that keeps you busy after all!

Thank you for looking over this piece and I would LOVE to hear what you make of any of my other work.

I rate this episode highly - it may not be my all time favorite, but it had so much to say. I am beaming at the fact that you found my Dean insights "spot -on". I am really happy that you enjoyed this, I loved writing it; these kind of topics  just get the wheels turning!!!  :->

As I said before, you are entirely welcome to let me know what you make of my work - even the not so shiny stuff (LOL) - as I find this a helpful way to improve. Appreciate all the kind words and  your time reading and reviewing.

i Love that you brought in a story about father reynolds.  I often thought tthat the series underplayed the potential for a type of Pastor Jim to the boys that Father Reynolds could have served.

Author's Response:

Thank you for taking the time to let me know how you found this piece. It means a lot that you 'loved' it.

I really love this episode for what it says - and what it leaves open to the audience to imagine. I agree - I also loved the idea of the boys having a Pastor Jim type character to fall back on. I am kind of playing in that sandbox at the minute with the multi-chapter I am currently posting.

Thanks for spending some time with me - appreciate it!

Very nicely done. That ending brought a whimsical smile to my face. Nice to believe that Dean had a willing ear.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading (and making the rounds of my stories :-) ) and reviewing. I am with you - the thought of Dean NEVER having an outlet or a 'willing ear' is really harsh, so I decided to fix that !!! LOL! Happy you liked this!

I think you have an awesome future ahead of you, if the 3 fanfics posted on this site are your first.

They are all riveting stories and I look forward to reading more of your efforts.

Author's Response:

Wow, Thank you for your kind review. Yes, although I have been scribbling for a long time, this is the first place I have dared to share it with anyone who wasn't family (and therefore obliged to smile indulgently !!! LOL).

So glad you enjoyed my stories. I had to smile when you said you found them riveting, thanks for that. Hope that whatever I may write in the future continues to entertain you.

you may not know God; but he knows you Dean - Loved that line, really cool story and a great step back to the second season.  - kel

Author's Response:

Hello there Ms. K,

Thanks for reading and reviewing this, as always very helpful to know what you liked in this piece. I loved this episode for what it revealed about the boys and the bigger issues it touched on, without hammering them to death. I liked the way the writers went about exploring the topic of Faith and related it to the boys - so I hoped no-one minded the retro take.

Oh, you mean that Dean is trying to regain his faith back? i hope so. i agree with the priest that Dean might not know God, but He knows Dean.

Author's Response:

I saw the end of this episode and thought there was a chink in Dean's iron clad refusal to admit that if evil existed, so did good. Playing with the idea that he started to question his lack of Faith and then begins to worry that he had a hand in knocking Sam's Faith. I am very for the priests philosophy in this too.

Thanks for the review - and all the lovely stars!!!

Just got to put my five cents in here. I thought this piece was deep and moving and captured Dean's character perfectly. I really enjoyed it especially the almost mischievous one sentence ending.

Author's Response: I was so pleased that you enjoyed this piece, and am truly overjoyed that something I wrote 'moved you' - thanks for sharing that. Oh and you gave me the biggest smile by telling me I "captured Dean's character perfectly"!!!!! You are too kind!Thank you for letting me know what worked in this for you - find that helpful, and please feel free to let me know your thoughts anytime. Five cents, two cents... pocket fluff... all feedback welcomed!!!! LOL!!! Abi.

A very thoughtful and stirring piece!  It's one I had to read several times just to understand all the subtle nuances between Dean and Father Reynolds.  So many questions, which bring up so many more questions and not enough answers.  I guess Father Reynolds said it all when he said, "faith is meant to be tested."

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review. I was deeply flattered that you read this so closely - and looked at it more than once. I like the way this show makes you think, and packs so much entertainment into just 45 minutes. This episode is amongst my favourite for that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and taking time to review.

Abi.

This is wonderful, spiritual without ever being overbearing or pious.  Dean's dicotomy over his (unrecognised) true faith is heartbreaking but realistic.

You have lines of beautifully evocative dialogue and description, for example."Something had changed for this young man, something profound but fragile." This is touching and sad.

And this "You will not fall as long as I stand.  Whether the boy believed it or not, he was a hero- whether he believed in God or not " Beautiful!

Dean's concern that his has damaged Sam's faith is very believable and contexturally appropriate, and his worry that he is not enough anymore or not knowledgible to give Sam faith is poignant and convincingly written.

And the scattering of edgy humour is refreshing!

Charming, I loved it thanks for sharing.

bev xx

Author's Response:

I'll try this again (computer woes!!!).

Bev,

Thank you for your amazingly flattering review. I kept grinning wider with words like "realistic... touching...convincingly written... (and my favorite) edgy humor!!!" I had to double take the last comment - most proud of that one, as I find that is my description of Dean's humor, and to have hit that mark, for you... well I'm feeling pretty high right now!!!!

Your encouragement gave me a real boost, and all that praise has my head fit to burst ... LOL!!! Careful your spoiling me !!!:-)

Greatly appreciate your comments and thoughts.

This was 'fanfreakingtastic'...lol

I am a bit of a sucker for a theological debate and this was just beautiful, and very believable. I would love to think Dean is still e-mailing Father Reynolds, what a great thought!

Thanks for the read!

Author's Response:

LMAO - Louey, you just have this way of getting straight to the point and making me just... BEAM!!!! Ha Ha! (I might have to steal your word!!)

Thank you for the kind words - I am so glad that this was convincing, I enjoy the odd theological debate, one of my best friends just brings it out in me ... but that is because he acts, mostly, as an agent of the other side !!!! Ha Ha!!

You know, I threw in the E-mail thing in my editing and just found it comforting - I hate to think of how much Dean bears alone.

Thanks again for the great review... and all those beautiful stars!!!

This was a wonderful tag to that episode which is one of my favorites.  I often think about the boys in relaton to the clues revealed in this episode.

Thanks for sharing!

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review. This is one of my favorite episodes too, and your right, it is clever in the way it reveals some of the inner-workings of the boys thoughts and beliefs.

I am so glad you enjoyed this and took the time to tell me so ... from all the talented work you produce, I can imagine you are a busy lady!

I was wondering if this was a "tag" - I am still finding my way round, not only fan-fic jargon, but computer jargon too - yes technophobe stepping into the light... right here!!!
