Funny how we can go nostalgic over time periods in our childhood that we didn't like. Beautiful peek at Sam's bittersweet realization of all the effort Dean put into those "mindless" games to add humor to their days, stave off fear of the narrow line they were walking. This is a wonderful piece, I'm so glad you posted it!
Author's Response: Thank's Angela. You've managed to sum up exactly what I was going for so I'm so pleased it worked for you. Thanks for reading and reviewing and especially the stars, you've made me smile. X Louy

Do you think we will ever get that moment in the show - you know the one where Sam actually thanks his brother for raising him or acknowledges Dean was more of a father than John was? Me either so thanks for your story.
Author's Response: I think your right, we won't see that, but if we do, that will become my new favourite episode! Thanks for the review lostatc, and I love your work.

Nice one!! Louy, this was very sweet and bittersweet at same time.....Altho we all know how much Sam thought his childhood was horrid..You also have to know how much he appreciated Dean having been there to keep it from not being EVEN WORSE.... All of us have memories of trying to help siblings thru their terrors and tribulations....IT WAS FUN TO BE ABLE TO RELATE to yhis tale....especially when it involved sneaking one past the parental units!!!
Author's Response: Hah...oh yes, I'm all for sneaking one past the old'uns. I'm very glad you enjoyed this Jude and thank you for the great review and all those stars, you've put a huge smile on my face today. Thank you X Louy

I really enjoyed this. Loved the peek into their childhood, and the role of Dean as a parent. My favourite line, in a long list, was Sam's "Thanks for raising me, man." Beautiful - thank you for a real treat. Jules
Author's Response: Thanks mizpah. I know it's not really Wee!chester as such but I am a sucker for these boys as kids, and how they coped with it all... Thanks for reading and reviewing, and especially for the stars. X Louy

Okay, darn you. I saw this was a one-shot and thought "I'll just check it out really quick between phone calls..." and here I sit all friggin' choked up. Before I dive into philosophical territory, I just have to say that I loved this line: Sam’s smile was a cocktail of happiness and relief. Beautiful phrasing. Okay, so I am the oldest of five and raised my two youngest sibs. I actually gasped when I started reading this story because I thought I made up the "swear word" game -- I played it when them the first time my brother came home and asked me what f*ck meant. Gah. And when you're a big brother (or sister) that acts like a pseudo parent you do what you have to do to take care of your young charges... this story so sweetly depicted that. You brought back some nice and some bittersweet memories for me. Well done, lady. Well done, indeed.
Author's Response: Well first, thanks for not drawing attention to my misspelling of the name of the greatest rock band on the planet...I have corrected it now, and am hanging my head in shame!! Not sure I'll ever live it down...lol And its amazed me how many people have said they played these kind of games...I played all these, and also thought I'd invented them... ...but my bitter sweet memories only come from the black olive strawberry jelly mix...DON'T TRY IT...be warned! Thanks for the review Gaelic, especially as a lot of what I'm doing now has been influenced by your writing.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely compliment...I would have loved to have a brother like Dean, and in my world Sam definately knows how lucky he is. Thanks for reading and reviewing, and especially for the stars. X Louy

Lou, Nothing more fun than making up your own games to play. Spent many childhood hours doing the same thing. Sweet way to reminisce, the bad times weren’t always so bad when there was someone special to spend them with. Great job! Crystal
Author's Response: Thanks so much Crystal, and you're right, you can always get through the bad if you have someone who's watching your back. Thanks for reading and reviewing X Louy

awww i love it! just close enough to being chick-flicky, but not too chick-flicky for them -- you stayed true to the characters and gave an true glimpse of Dean's awesome big brother-parent skills. adorable :)
Author's Response: Thank you very much, that's a great compliment. Thanks for reading and staying on to review, and especially for the stars. X Louy

What a wonderfully inventive mind you have lou. A little boys inventive games to make his brothers life better. Love sams dawning realization of what his brother did for him and deans acceptence that it was his childhood also. Lorraine
Author's Response: Thanks Lorraine. For the review, the stars and for the encouragement to post in the first place. You're a star! X Lou

Awh Bullet I just love that! 'The wide smile beaming on his face, and the dark freckles dusting his skin suddenly gave Dean the impression of being a much younger man.' That's a great line, you have a way of using few words but capturing an expression, a mood, a character so well. And I think you have a crush on Dean's freckles in fact we should rename him Jensen Freckles specially for you!! 'Dean was staring into the middle distance with smiling eyes, completely engrossed in the reminiscence' And this Lout, what a sweet image! Kinda dreamy and far away. Beautiful! Loved it Hun, Bev xxxx
Author's Response: Thank you Bev, you are too kind...and we luv ya for it. Pretty sure the freckles thing was a direct descendant of a description in a Gaelicspirit story...I always find her work an inspiration. And yeah, Jensen Freckles works for me...Thanks mate X Lout

Ahhh Lou this was the funniest, most sweetest one shot I've read in a while. And I'll say another thing, I would've loved to have been there and played those friggin games. Written beautifully!!!! Love the stealth wording game ;) Well done hun, this rocked big time!!! Sick banner too, I'm thrilled to have such a talented friend;) You're a diamond! Schelz
Author's Response: Thanks Schelz, and as I said, I've played all these before...so let me knows how it goes with your sis...lol Thanks for the review and the stars, they are very special.

Ah that was wonderful. Dean tried so hard - for a kid. Glad you had Sam finally realize how "lucky" he was. Dean made sure his little brother was taken care - if he had to steal gifts from down the street or make up crazy eating games. Thanks
Author's Response: I do feel ever so slightly jealous of Sam, I would have loved a big brother like Dean, but then who wouldn't...lol Thanks for reading and staying on to review mtee. X Lou
