I think Dean as Sam's 'guardian' of sorts is unspoken canon, feels like that's the way it should be, and you see different versions of it throughout fanfiction. I'm thrilled you liked my version. *laugh* I love Sam just as much as Dean...but sometimes it depends on the day who I gravitate toward for character developement. I just wanted to add my thanks to everyone elses. I was really wrapped up in this story and patiently waited for updates when I saw it on the supernatural fiction forum. I didn't review it at the time as I was a confirmed lurker and very nervous! It is a great story. I really liked the way you kept the direction of season 1 within your alternate events.

What a fantastic ending! The fact that Sam chose to go with Dean gave it that much more impact. This story was so good right up through the final line. Loved how you wove in "real" dialogue and characters yet managed to create a totally believable version of your own AU. Well done. P.S. Congratulations!!!!

Hey girl!!! Just leaving some cookies everywhere I go...you deserve them! As GS said, it was masterful the way you wove canon into your own ideas and universe to come out the other side with more less the same result...only not. I'm awed by it. You are one clever girl. And, man, you scared me there for a minute. First, when I thought maybe Dean was dead. Then again, when I thought the brothers were going their separate ways. Whew! What a relief when I figured out what you had done. Also, I was pleasantly surprised by Jess's entrance. I'd forgotten that in your universe, she was still alive. It took me a minute to remember why and how, lol. Thanks for the ride and for allowing me to be a teeny tiny part in it. *snif* *snif* its really over..... It was so cool to play out the "what if". I like that Jess is out there somewhere still alive and John's death left less scars. I have to say though, for the first half of the chapter I was like "Nononono, Dean died, Deans a ghost, Dean doesn't KNOW he's a ghost, NOOOOOOO! and then...I was able to breathe again:) LOVE your work.

Sam couldn't let Dean die anymore that Dean could allow Sam to stay dead. It is the tie that binds them together, one soul in two bodies or maybe two woven completely together, and you expressed it so well. Of course I worried for a few paragraphs. Wonderful epilogue to a great story.

Sojourner, that was really a wonderful read! I actually cheered out loud when I saw that the epilogue had been posted! Fortunately I had the VS to keep me occupied or it would not have been pretty! You definitely do the boys justice not only in how they view each other, but also how they view themselves...much kudos to you for that. I also how you brought it all back to the scene in the Impala from the first season...that was brilliant! I'm sad that it's over, but I enjoyed the ride and cannot wait to see what you come up with next!

sj -- this was fantastic. The whole story, start to finish, had so much emotion and connection to the characters that I can't wait to go back and re-read it. You brought us full circle with this epilogue -- a wonderful coda to a fantastic epic. I enjoyed your version of Bobby and Joshua immensly, and you gutted me multiple times with Sam and Dean's fight to survive, to save each other, their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their brother... They were beautiful in this.
My favorite thing, though is how you wove "cannon" into your universe. Especially in this chapter. The reveal of what happened to the boys after Joshua pulled them from the church was masterful. Though most who know you felt confident in a happy ending, you cleverly toyed with the reader at the beginning until we saw Dean near the Impala. I enjoyed how Jess was brought into the picture, and Dean's natural tendency to be a provider for Sam, and I really liked your reason for putting the brother's back on the road together (as they should be). Not because Sam had nothing left... not because there wasn't another choice... but because they were family. And they had a job to do.
It's almost like you took pieces of the "real" story and turned them inside out and backwards -- creating a universe where the same end result would be plausible, but getting there via a completely different path. That takes skill. I've been completely entertained for 16 chapters, and I am truly looking forward to your next endeavor.

Wow, unbelievable story! You are fabulous. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this story before. I went back today and reread the entire story so I would get the full impact of your writing. I loved the way Dean helped Sam come back to himself. This chapter pulled the whole story together. Dean holding a part of Sam was so right. His taking the knife wound so he could reach Sam was so perfect. He would gladly die if it meant Sam would survive. Of course Sam's full power coming with the possibility of Dean's being killed by the Demon was right on too. I'm amazed at how you came to the same conclusions of the Demon wanting to bring one of the chosen to power by killing off all the others. Your story made me understand the end of this season of the TV show so much better. I'm not a writer. so words fail me at expressing how wonderful this story has been. Just know that I have loved every word. Can't wait to read the last chapter. Jenny
