The poem was so sad.  You made it clear that it had been an abandoned piece of the once happy family after the fire.  but then you added the story and it became even more poignant.

Brilliant Nessa!

How the h**l did I miss this????? Didn't even see it posted - damn those pesky laptop demons...

...as great as ever, beautiful to see the relationship between Sam and Dean before Sam was even born...

..and I'm liking this habit you're developing of having a poem that goes alongside your fic!

Author's Response: I can't believe I never responded to this review!  Does better late than never still apply?  Thank you so much, Lou, for this.  I really liked this story--it was close to my heart.

Must have missed this when posted Vanessa, very sweet little oneshot - K

Author's Response:

Yeah, it was only in the Most Recent box for all of 5 minutes and then got buried in the abuse avalanche.

Thank you very much, Kel.  I'm really happy to hear that you enjoyed it!!

I feel all warm and fuzzy inside now. My parents used to do the old coffee before presents thing, too. It drove me mad. Good job!

Author's Response: Thank you, wolfsnight.  I'm so glad you enjoyed this little holiday fare.

this was a beautiful story.

Warm, loving,a happy time before the YED.

it was bittersweet  when Dean drew his family- Baby Sammy in the circle representing Mary's belly.

Dean wanting to give Sammy presents- heartbreaking, since we all know the end result.

You are a master storyteller-you have truly worked your magic here.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful tale.

Author's Response: Wow, ReccaF, thank you so much for that lovely compliment.  I'm so very happy to know you liked this story.  You've put a smile on my face.

Oh Ness this was lovely. Yeah, you hit the bullseye.

Your little fic bought a lump to my throat because we know Sammy never got to have that Christmas with his mother, and Mary didn't see her son's first Christmas. This little scene shows just how ripped off this family was when evil came knocking - not just a normal family, but a loving family.

Your poem as the opener was brilliant - a snapshot of a "happy stick figure family", captured in crayon, "frozen in time'...this sweet little fic feels like the explanation for this snapshot. Beautiful poem, beautiful oneshot, beautiful memory.

...and special for me coz in our family we open one pressie at a time too!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Petra.  I'm so pleased and tickled to hear that you liked this little Christmas oneshot so much.  Everything you said in your review was running through my mind as I wrote it.  My mother even caught on and understood where I was going (not that she usually doesn't, but she's a relatively new SN fan  hehe).

Yes, during my childhood too, there was always one designated "gift passer" and we all took turns opening a present until everything was opened.  :-)

Nice job, Vanessa! This's truly touching, sweet, beautiful and well written. It makes me happy but very sad at the same time... Knowing what's going to happen to a poor family. All those little things (like a miniatyre replica of Impala) were great! It's so cute that Dean called his brother Sammy before he was even born. I also liked your poem (of course!). Don't ever stop writing! :)

Author's Response: Thank you very much!  I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!

Vanessa this is a gentle sweet well thought out wee tale...personally it ranks pretty high on my list.....how sweet...I can even picture Dean's little drawing caught in the wind after the fire blew out the windows at the house.....so sad, so sweet, so touching.....

Just like when Dean told Sam in the Episode about always wanting to be a fireman...then the HW Impala...all such sweet kid gifts....love the Mechanics' calendar for John     Such a sweet, sad tale...

Author's Response: Thank you, dear.  I'm incredibly happy to hear that you liked this little tale.  Thank you for all the pretty stars too.

You have to do wee'chesters again.  It's so sweet. Loved Dean and how protective he was even as a kid with his little brother, and also his child statement, just knowing Sammy was his little brother. Christmas cookies for you.

Author's Response: So I pulled it off okay, huh?  I'm really glad to hear that!  Thank you, Dean494, for reading and reviewing.  I'm so glad you liked this little holiday tale.

So SWEET!  To think that the next Xmas poor Mary would already be gone...how different Dean's next Xmas must have been...I think that made this even more sad for me...knowing that John's promise would unwittingly be broken...

Very, very sweet!  Great Jobs Vanessa!

Author's Response: Thank you, Gen!!  I'm so glad to know you liked this story.  I was shooting for sweet . . . and poignant.  I'm happy I was able to pull it off.
