Reviews For To The Rescue

I am seriously a sucker for the boys with a kid. The way how Ben is treated by Sam and Dean in your Ben Series just goes with everything they are. They are caring and loving and stern, all the things a good parent is. Loved how Hendrickson saw the routine and how Ben fit into that as well as the point that he made that John Winchester had trained his sons to be better than him.But I have to say that I am  not necessarily a fan of Bobby in your stories. His characterisation seems unduly harsh and the way Dean is so mistrustful of him. It works for your story though. Sam is a great uncle and would make a great dad I think. And the way Dean acts with Ben shows a side of Dean Winchester that I love. The court scene was my favourite scene  because we saw character developments in that procession that I could not ignore. An awesome read all in all. And I love the fact that it’s all done so I don’t have to wait for an update! Off to read the next story!

Author's Response:

I was never particularly a sucker for the guys with a child but the idea of Ben being Dean's son really grabbed hold with me.

I'm to defend my Bobby.  At the time that I wrote this I was still very stuck on the fact that in season two it seemed to me that someone knew what they guys were doing and that it could only really be either Bobby, Ellen or Jo.  I was casting doubt on all of them because it increased tension.  I think, given that information about the guys was getting out, that Dean would be very hesitant about exposing Ben to anyone.  As a writer, it causes a reaction in readers when you bring beloved characters into doubt.  I don't know how much of the rest of this you've read but I think I do Bobby justice by the end.

Thank you so much for a detailed and insightful review.  I agree with you, I wrote a different Bobby but that Bobby was from Dean's not-so-trustworthy point of view.  Dean was nervous, scared and cautious - only years of conditioning enable him to trust Sam - given seasons 4 and 5 (I started this at the beginning of season 3) I doubt Dean would be that trusting of Sam when it comes to Ben.

Again.  Thanks.

Over the last couple of days, I have reread this from start to finish and I have to say its not the first reread either. I think this is my favourite Ben Braedon story so far, and its one I love to drop into frequently. I especially love the early chapters with Dean and Ben getting to know each other, but every twist keeps me reading and every time I get to the end I wish there was more. Luckily for me there are more stories to dip into and I intend to keep dipping.

Author's Response:

Reviews make me happy, giddy even but sometimes reviews make me humble.  When anyone says they want to read something I've written more than once, that's humbling for me.  I am so glad that you enjoy this story, it is one that I am very proud of.

Thank you so much for the review , the stars and for coming back to read again.

Lovely story. Dean and Sam struggling with parenthood is a sight to see, and Henrickson getting his eyes opened and not ending up dead 5 minutes later is great.

Looking forward to reading more of your old stuff whilst I avoid season 4 spoilers.

Author's Response:

Sorry that you are not privy to season 4.  It can be downloaded online but if you're not into that sort of thing, I hope the season starts for you soon.

I love Dean and Sam as parents.  I love it as a means to look into how they were raised and the adjustments they would make.  I love the idea that Dean would step into this rather smoothly since, in actuality, he's done it before.  I love that Sam would watch and learn and develop his own way of doing things.

Anyway, thanks for reading.  I love knowing people are reading my stories.

Poor Ben, he seems to be learning all the down sides of being a Winchester in a very short period of time. Fixated on by a ghost, thrown around by said ghost, patching up a person he loves, and now targetted by another hunter. Poor Ben.

Loving this story. Real life housework is being ignored so I can keep reading.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much.  One does have the bad luck when one's a Winchester.  Fair warning...the story gets a little strange from here on out.  I got a bee in my bonnet and that's where it took me.  I hope you continue to enjoy.

Thanks for reading and the reviews.

Dean and Ben disappearing after being attacked by a statue definitely has my attention 100%.

I have to hope Bobby remains a steadfast friend to the boys, I like him too much for him to be the leak. But if its not him, then who is it?

Author's Response:

I based that portion on the myth of the Black Aggie.  Very cool little story.  I made up everything after their disappearance though.  Hope you continue to enjoy.

Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Welcome to the brutal and distinctly less glamorous side of hunting.

Seems very right that every experience would be turned into a lesson. Sounds just like what John would have done.

More real life jobs to do before I can read another chapter. So see you later.

Author's Response:

I think this is how it would have been done.  On the job training, a sort of apprenticeship.  I lot of theory and then practice when the need arouse.  And how terrifying but necessary if you're a child.

Thanks for reading and leaving reviews.  I appreciate it.

Love the way this story is panning out.  Will be back later to read more, boring real life calls now.

Author's Response: Thank you so much.  Sorry life had to get in the way. It does that once in a while.

Really admire the way you explained Sam and Dean's upbringing to the judge. Very reasonable, but I bet it was tough coming up with the sentences that make it sound so reasonable, especially the social interaction section.

Well done.

Author's Response:

It's kind of funny but that scene was one of the easiest to write.  I happen to think John was probably a very loving father and that, despite Sam's protests, they really admired what he did for them.  Not a popular opinion but it's the one I've got.

Thanks for reading.

Holy sweet Jesus, woman!  What are you trying to do to me with the horror and the suspense?!

Read this whole thing in one go.  Never let anyone steal Ben again.  It's evil!   :P

Author's Response:

Sorry about that.  I didn't mean to but it is very fun.  I hope you enjoyed it.  And in one go?  Wow, you are impressive.

Thanks for reading and the fatastic review.

This has been an awesome story from start to finish. I like the addition of Ben..I'm going to read your other Ben stories. Thanks for writing.

Author's Response:

Sorry for not replying to this earlier.

Thank you so much.  I love Ben myself but I'm biased so I'll leave it at that.  I hope you enjoy(ed) the other stories.

Absolutely BRILLIANTLY AWESOME!! I read this from start to finish & WOW. Yes, a tough subject matter towards the end, but you handled it very well. Loved it!!

Author's Response: WOW!  Thank you so much!  I love this story and I love Ben.  I really appreciate you reading and reviewing.

Wow, this was a fantastic story. I know, I know, some really dark themes running through it. But also running through it are some bright shining ideals -- how you portray Dean as a caring father, determined not to make the same mistakes his father did. I was really worried that there would be no happy ending, but you came through for me in the end. happy happy joy joy.

Author's Response:

I very rarely - infact haven't yet - leave things not happy.  I think even when things are the worst there are good aspects to life.  Dean having his own family, no matter the circumstances would be a happy thing in my book.

Thanks for reading and leaving a review!

Wow!!!!

i love that you made Ben be Dean son; i was disappointed that he wasn't because of the show.

I love how he is so much like Dean; you caught his mannerisms perfectly.

one of my favorite lines is in chapter 6 when Bobby is sleeping in his bed.

"punch the stranger & tell him to get the hell out of his bed" so what Dean would do or think.

can't wait to read Choice

Great story love the interaction with Dean, Sam, Bobby and Ben.

Author's Response:

I was so disappointed in the show myself.  Thank goodness for fanfiction and living the Winchesters lives the way that we want to.  I'm still firmly in the camp that Lisa may have been lying (I know delusional).

I'm so happy that you're reading this.  Choices is very different be patient it works it's way through to having the same feeling as To The Rescue.

Thanks for reading and for the reviews!  I really appreciate it.

Terrific story terrific ending...Thanks for the great read - Kel

Did I tell you this one's just terrific yet...lol... so glad you converted Hendrickson

Author's Response: Wow, Humbled here.  I really appreciate the time you've taken to read my story and for the GREAT reviews.  Makes me feel like I own the world.

Breaking my heart here, I can only hope you planned on getting justice for th rest of the unnamed children,  Thanks for the read - K

Author's Response:

Justice will be served...at least a bit or as much as any of the victims see justice when it involves the supernatural.

Thanks again.

I don't have the words...Great update...

Author's Response: Loss of words is good, right?  Thanks!

Reviewer: kwater (Signed) · Date: 17/01/08 04:24 PM · On: Chapter 12

Well I'm still here and I have to say so far if someone stole my child away from me, I got no problems with anything Dean does to get Ben back.. Great update, though I see you posted a new one, I gotta read faster...lol.

Author's Response:

I knew you were still there.  Glad that you are still liking it.  Some people didn't like were Dean went but there would be a bad day on this planet if someone took one of my kids.

Thanks for reading and for the reviews.

Nope not forgotten..lol.  Just trying to balance reading, writing and family..like that works.  Great update and I love the way Dean's determined to try work things out with Ben.  Plus, you have to love the way Sam see Ben as insolent, as if we need anymore proof that Sam's John's son...Great read - Kel

Author's Response: Things are going to start getting a little wierd from here on out.  This story got away from me once I saw something on TV....hope you still enjoy even though it's a bit strange.

Reviewer: kwater (Signed) · Date: 10/01/08 09:22 AM · On: Chapter 10

Very cool, loved Ben's idea of keeping track of where he had gone.  Also Loved that Ben wants to call Dean, Dad.

Author's Response: Thank you.  Thought you'd forgotten about my little story but I saw that you'd been writing, just read your story last night.

Reviewer: kwater (Signed) · Date: 22/12/07 09:56 PM · On: Chapter 9

Oh, very cool.  So the boys are now also protecting Ben from other hunters, cool twist.  ;)

Author's Response: Thanks again.  I really appreciate you taking the time to read and review my stories!

Wow, what an introduction into the world of field medicine, loved the details.  Great job - K

Author's Response:

Thank you.  It's pretty much how I figure John taught the boys so it would make sense to teach Ben the same way.

Thanks again.

Reviewer: kwater (Signed) · Date: 22/12/07 09:35 PM · On: Chapter 7

Great update, love that Ben's taken to hunting as I picture Dean had.  Love that Sam's the one that most resembles John.

Also, sidenote, I have to say I agree with the brother's Department stores are the scariest place you can take your child...lol.  I loved that you had Dean and Sam panicked and Ben being the one to calm them down...  - K

Author's Response:

I think Sam is very much like John and I picture that Dean would be a lot like Mary.  I think a lot of writers see the same thing.  It made sense that Ben would be the calm one since he's probably had the mose experience in department stores in his life.
