So good!! I can actually picture the boys saying this to each other! Canon!! And I love the second to last sentence....

"The Winchester brothers were in this war together, soldier-brother beside soldier-brother. Joined forever, inseparably at the heart, they were in this for one another."

Because its very true! You totally nail the reason why I love the show so much!! Thanks so much for sharing this lovely piece... it needs a sequel!!! :-)

I've not seen Season II but, I did see the episode where Sam separates the head from Gordon, almost with his bare hands! Thanks for clearing up Sam's behavior from that of Season I. Boy he sure is getting to be as cool as Dean! Looks like the brothers a becoming "one".

Author's Response:

You're right El Primo.....it does feel like Sam is finally accepting that HE is a hunter first and foremost...just like his beloved Big Brother...

Thank you so very much for your thoughtful and kind review......   :0)    jude

Oh Jude, I loved this. ‘Bout time someone got it all out in the open, those secrets are just killing them. We know that each brother comes from the same angle of unconditional love, but by trying to protect each other by withholding stuff has caused pain, fear and a wedge between them.

Your story where each brother opened up and laid out what has been driving them nuts is brilliant. I loved everything about the way you did this – Sam’s burst of anger and defensiveness as the trigger for the confrontation, the honest conversation, the physical contact that is neither forced nor awkward, but second nature, the understanding each man comes to and his resolve.

I loved your words “Without even taking a breath, the words tumbled easily from Sam’s lips. A simple answer, “We’ve got the new Colt. We kill the thing.” - I can see this mature hunter!Sam saying that plain as day. Dean’s “his Sam” in his reflection – perfect to reveal that Dean is freaked with this ‘new’ Sam.

This stunning line really caught my attention – “Thinking fast, realizing the desperate need to choose his words carefully, Dean paused for a moment. He, sure as shit, didn’t need a pissed off Sam stomping off into the sunset alone…” – pure Dean, thinking ahead to safe guard Sam, perfectly written.  You wrote Dean’s hurt and confusion SO well here – “…You never even flinched!” A look of pain filled Dean’s concerned eyes…” you made me catch my breath here.

And here is the realisation that each has been contributing to the barrier – “That something seemed to bother Dean nearly as much as Dean’s demonic deal was upsetting Sam” Excellent Jude.

And tough talking Sam, more like Dean’s words coming out of Sam’s mouth –““Well? You knew he had killed me, what the f*ck were you going to do to him? Take him out to breakfast? I just got that bastard in my sights before you did was all!..." No wonder Dean couldn’t argue with that logic, it's just like his!!

I loved Sam’s softening as Dean listed his kills. The real Sam that is still there. Dean recognised it when he physically connected with his brother, the need to comfort and reassure the gentle soul that is his little brother under the man maturing into the tough hunter.

And finally! “Closing his suddenly tear-filled eyes against such gut-wrenching news, Sam breathed quietly for a few seconds. Perhaps the time had finally arrived to clear the air of other little secrets” My heart sang and shattered at the same time.

Your title was PERFECT – the boy’s realisation and understanding, and their commitment to each other summed up with ferocity.

Sorry this review is so long winded, bit over the top, but your fic just GOT to me, I really GET IT.  I’ve actually come back and read this one a few times. Awesome work.

Petra....thank you again for finding one of my pieces.....I'm always afraid that I won't do one of your delicious, deep delving reviews the justice it so richly deserves!  I am utterly delighted that you found so much of this to your liking...

Each of us views the boys a bit differently so I'm sure some would heartily disagree with my take on this....I stand behind my words however...    I will be very interested in seeing where Mr Kripke takes us on his awesome rollercoaster ride thru the SUPERNATURAL Funhouse...  Thank you, sweetie, for GETTING IT !! i'm so happy!!!

Overall, I really liked this, but I don't think Dean would cry. He'd shed tears over his Dad's funeral pyre, or Sammy's body, but not when his little brother could see it. Dean would be glad to see Sammy crying, tho, since it'd be proof that he's still his Sammy. And you've got me thinking about the talk between Dean and YED at the cemetery. Voices travel further at night, what if Sam heard YED's question, and in addition to Dean wondering if he's 100% Sammy, Sam is wondering the same thing? Hmmm

Thanks for the story, it was very enjoyable. Now if only Sam would just tell Dean about what Ruby said about Mom and Mom's friends being dead...

Author's Response:

Way too many secrets .....but we all know how they try to protect one another EVEN from each other.......   Look how long Dean carried Dad's dying message.......

Sure Mom's secret is coming but whether this season or next will remain to be seen....   nah...never said Dean WAS crying had moisture in their lashes only....

Great writing - and a great read -thanks!

Author's Response:

Lou....thank you so much for the encouragement and all those lovely stars.....           Wasn't sure how well a tough-talking Sam or me would be accepted....    But we did see a little demanding from Sammy in Fresh Blood......figured I'd push the envelope a tad further....

Well done Jude, you have put into words what so many of are wanting them to say. Secrets keep them apart when they so desperately need to be together as a united front.

Loved it the first time.  Loved it the second time too.  This is definitely stuff the boys need to get out in the open.  Fulfills our desperate need for emo!  :-)

Author's Response:

Vee,  Thanks for making the time to read again and even leave a review......Made Sam a bit too tough in this maybe...but he showed us that in-Dean's-face side in FRESH BLOOD.....standing up to Dean about being really scared of the deal.......soooooooo I figured "let's play off of that..."

Thank you for not only the review but a nice rating as well.....

Reviewer: Shannondoah (Signed) · Date: 19/11/07 09:43 AM · On: Chapter 1 Come Hell or High Water!!

Great one shot, Jude!  I'm glad they got everything out in the open and resolved to support the other even more than before.

Author's Response:

Wish they'd do it on the show as well....but hey, angst and secrets keep us going back for more I guess......

It's just driving me nuts that so many think Sam is evil now.....I don't agree.......
