Aw, this is really sweet, even re-reading it in mid-January brings back the holiday feeling. This shows how even at an early age, Dean isall about providing for his family, especially Sammy.

I was visiting this site, looking for a story to read and thought I would read yours again.

It just makes me smile, even if Dean didn't have any gifts to open, his little brother still gave him the greatest gift of all, a hug full of love.

Thanks again for sharing your stories with us.

Until next time, take care.

Author's Response: Awww, thanks hon. It's so sweet of you to take the time to re-read and review on this site, too! *hug* I really appreciate the lovely comments. I'm so glad this made you smile, and you're right--even though Sammy didn't have a present to give, he still gave Dean a great gift. :)

Lovely little fic. It is kinda sad in away because here we have Dean doing all the giving and he loves the feeling, so starts his life long giving, giving, giving, and believing he doesn't have to have his family give him anything back because it is not important.

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thanks so much for taking the time to read and rate this story, I really appreciate it!

I didn't mean for it to be sad, but I can definitely see where you're coming from on that. It is sad sometimes, how little Dean expects from his family.

If you enjoyed this story, you might enjoy the others in this Life's Lessons series. The one before this is another favorite of mine, it's called "Life's Lessons: Take One for the Team." If you check it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! :)

Thanks again, and Happy New Year!

I enjoyed this story very much.   I get exactly what Dean is saying about getting something from watching someone who is excited open gifts.

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thanks so much for coming over to check out my new story, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you liked it so much, that means a lot to me! Thanks for taking the time to leave a great review and rating.

Yeah--I'm a lot like Dean in that regard, too. I LOVE to give people gifts, and get so excited watching them open them. LOL

If you enjoyed this one, you might like the others in this series, too. They don't have to be read in any particular order. You might like "Life's Lessons: Take One for the Team." If you check it out, I'd love to hear what you think! :)

Thanks again! Happy New Year!

If you enjoyed this, you might like the others in the series. They don't have to be read in any particular order, since all are stand-alone. You might like "Life's Lessons: Take One for the Team," which is the one that came right before this one. If you check it or the others out, I'd love to hear what you think! :)

Thanks again for the kind words! Happy New Year!

Oh I DID like this one... aw. They just are soooo cute. And Sammy not even shuttin up at that early age? heeeheeee

The description of them curled up so close together added the necessary warm, loving sadness to it. I felt like John there and tried to gulp against the lump in my throat.

Great job!

RC

Author's Response:

Aww, thanks for the wonderful review and rating. I really appreciate both! I'm thrilled that you liked this story so much! I'm glad it touched your heart.

And yeah--I do tend to portray wee!Sammy as a bit of a chatterbox. LOL If you like that, check out my first wee!Chester story, "Just Like My Big Brother." In it, we find out what Sammy really thinks about Dean when they're growing up.

I also just posted another in this series, if you're interested. It's called "Life's Lessons: Better to Give," and it's guaranteed to give you warm fuzzies. If you check it out, let me know what you think! :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review! It means a lot to me!

"I go get a bangaid. Make it better."

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Seriously, can little Sammy get any cuter? And I loved the visual of the tot poking at Dean's black eye, not realising that he was actually making a bigger ouchie - LOL.

Oh, gosh, and you know, it reminded me of.....me. My grandfather was a metal machinist, and was always coming home from work with nicks and cuts. And I'd always fuss over him until he sat down and let me clean the cuts with Dettol and put a band-aid over them.

Loved the sweet little moment between the two little boys.

Even if it was a dreaded drabble.....ROFL

Yep, could really see that happening. There is a resonance between those two that seems to calm and bolster them at the same time. I can easily imagine them both unconsciously - and consciously in Sammy's case - reaching out for each other, needing that calm and reassurance of the other's presence.

Very sweet - huge awwww moment. Thank heavens John gave in to those adorable, tear-filled puppy eyes.

Jules

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thanks for another great review. I'm thrilled you liked this one and felt it rang true to their characters.

I like to try and use the drabbles to show little snippets of brotherly moments that characterize their relationship, even though they're not long. I feel like a lot of times, it's the small, everyday moments that matter the most to a relationship anyway, and drabbles are perfect for that.

If you enjoyed this, you might like an extended drabble I did along a similar theme, "Life's Lessons: No Balm Like a Brother." In that, Dean's hurt and it's up to wee!Sammy to make him feel better. If you decide to check it out, I hope you enjoy it! :)

Thanks again for the great feedback!

If I had tried to do that to my sister when she was little, she would have slugged me.  Sigh.  Sweet story.

Awwww! Sweet story.  And John realizing that Dean is rarely really peaceful....sad statement about his son.

Author's Response:

That was so very sweet and touching, Beth. Little Sammy overtired and way too upset, wrapped around his brother's leg like a tourniquet. And poor John, submitting to a six-year-old in defeat - LOL.

But the sweetest thing was at the very end, with the two little boys wrapped around each other, secure in each other's presence.

And John was right - his boys do have a special bond. I'm hoping that it's merely strained, not broken, now that they're adults and the salvation of the world is on their shoulders.

One can only hope.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'll catch up with The Soul Collector very soon, I promise.

Awww, this still got to me on the second reading. I just love the way that being in the presence of his brother makes both boys fall into easy, restful sleep. And good for John, for knowing what they both needed: each other. BTW Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!

I love this series! It is so sweet. Have you considered combining all the stories in one place?

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know what you think of the series, I really appreciate it. I'm thrilled you're enjoying it. I just posted another installment, "Life's Lessons: Better to Give." If you check it out, I'd love to hear what you think! :)

And I actually took your advice and created a series designation for this group of stories, so people can just click on the series link and access all of the stories from there. Great idea, thanks!

Thanks again for the feedback and the birthday wishes! :)

Ohh, I have tears in my eyes, that is soooo sweet, and I love Sammy's wittle baby talk...lol.  Dean is so clever.

It makes S4 all the more painful now the rift from what they had together has widened. A very nice distraction and HAPPY BIRTHDAY....

Hi

This was really sweet and very Dean. A little trick to get Sam to do what he wants.

Happy Birthday and thanks for brightening my day! Mary xx

I remember faking a nap once or twice to get my kids to sleep.  With each other, not a chance.  When my youngest was a baby, she used to push the oldest out of the way when she moved in to snuggle with me.  She was JUST FINE with her big sister going to school, so she could have Mommy all to herself.  Little snot....

This was really sweet, and a great way to showcase how important the brothers are to one another, even at such a young age.  And you did two VERY WELL!!

Happy Birthday, by the way!  Hope it's a great day!
